But we'll need money right now to sign the stars we have to extensions. Who knows about the future. Ummmm, Tucker saves them money, he gets paid peanuts in comparison to any LF you are advocating for...what good contact, power hitting prospects that is not a liability in the OF do the Astros have in the minors? One that has a legitimate chance on making the majors....Alvarez, from what I have seen, is a liability on the OF....as well as Beer...sounds like future 1b and DH to me. Tucker's ceiling is Bregman type numbers, his floor is Reddick type numbers. Hard to trade a guy like that but for a solid #2 starter with controllable years then go for it.

Whitley is only good for 15-18 starts this year at best. Now we could use him for 4 innings a start for 25-28 starts and then bring in Valdez but he is only good for 110-120 innings max

I don't want to trade Tucker for mediocrity. If we can keep him and still get some other guys I'm all for it. But if we can get a high talent controllable pitcher for Tucker we should, imo. I'd rather have a LF hole to fill in free agency than a good SP hole to fill in free agency. Tell me what you prefer: Springer Straw/Diaz Reddick Syndergaard Springer Tucker Reddick Framber You could potentially be looking at Framber as one of your rotation pieces after next year with very limited depth after him.... I think they are projecting Whitley being in the rotation sometime in 2019, plus we have James who we used as a starter and in relief. I haven't given up on re-signing Morton, plus we can put McHugh or Peacock in the rotation. I don't think they are desperate to sign or trade for a starter, but, if things work out right, I think they add one. I think they are focusing on Eovaldi and keeping Morton.

And that is making the assumption that two guys can successfully convert from relievers last year and having less than 70 innings pitched can turn it on without injury for 150-180 innings each and a rookie proves himself to be a major league starter. That is one hell of a lot of wishful thinking.

Man I have to completely disagree. We have three question marks after Verlander and Cole, but we have an offensive core based around four young all-stars and two solid veterans. 40% of our rotation is proven. 67% of our offense is proven (with an additional LF prospect that could be amazing). And that doesn't even count Diaz who is above average offensively. If we get Morton back (and he's healthy) and McHugh can handle the inning load, I'd agree with you. But we don't know about either of those guys yet. And remember, our rotation after next year is even more questionable. edit: Plus, White, Kemp, and Straw all had offensively-successful seasons as roleplayers. Let's not forget that White put up some amazing numbers during his stint.

I get lunhow is a master at not telling you nothing and something at the same time. I like it when he says they wont do anything big in trades nor FA.
Lmao
Verlander..... Cole....
I'm starting to get into the hype this GM will end up being stolen from us if we ever let his contract run out.
Any ways. I believe the hype of Grienke & Goldshmidt and they pay 20 to 30 million of Grienkes Contract.
I believe the Hype they are interested in signing one of Brantley, Pollock or Mccutcheon.
I also Believe they are hot for Nathan Eovaldi.
But the biggest thing I see J.T. Realmuto.
He makes to much since for the Astros as far as age goes. Best part is he turned down two contracts with the Marlins for 43m and 61m. But I think that's because he just doesn't wanna be there. I dont think anyone will ever get a Buster Posey deal again. That's Ludacris. But Realmuto 5yrs for 70?

Rather Astros sign Cruz this year than give up good prospects for Goldschmidt, a 1 year rental..like a lot of us been saying, sign him next year when he is a FA.

Sources: After landing LeBron, Magic Johnson travels with Dodgers officials to court Bryce Harper "The courtship of Bryce Harper likely means a journey to Las Vegas, the 26-year-old outfielder’s hometown and a place where one generally arrives with hope and cash and leaves with less of both. In recent weeks, Major League Baseball teams interested in perhaps the most sought-after free agent in nearly two decades road-tripped there with plenty more – a keen interest in getting to know him, a sales pitch on why he should sign with them and, in one case, even some Magic. Officials from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees are among upward of a dozen teams that have traveled or plan to travel to Nevada to meet with Harper, league sources familiar with the discussions told Yahoo Sports. Other meetings already are set for a site away from MLB’s winter meetings, which start Sunday at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres are expected to check in. The Washington Nationals, with whom he has spent his seven major league seasons and who offered him a 10-year deal worth around $300 million toward the end of the season that Harper rejected, almost certainly will circle back. You gotta love Luhnow. Little to no info leaking out of the Astros FO concerning player(s) he might be trying to deal for or sign. Some people seemed to think he was sitting on his hands and doing nothing at the non-waiver deadline last season. Only recently did we find out that he actually had a deal made to acquire Harper, but the Nats ownership vetoed it. I don’t recall reading any rumors last summer about the Astros attempting to trade for Harper.
I remember there was a lot of info leaking out of the FO about Luhnow’s pursuit of Kimbrel leading up to the non-waiver deadline in 2015. That probably didn’t help this chances of making a deal. Then...after that deal failed to materialize..., came the Gomez/Fiers debacle in which he gave up Hader.., the best left handed pitching prospect the team had... and 3 others... for a nut case and a batting practice pitcher. I’ll bet he would like to have that one back. Luhnow learned a lot from that experience though. He probably thinks about Hader every time another team mentions Whitley in trade talks.
Although everyone... including me... assumes he will have to give up Tucker to get a guy like Realmuto or Thor, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he finds a way to make a deal for one of those guys without giving up Tucker or Whitley.

The thing that keeps me from wanting Tucker sent away for Realmuto is I can’t picture him staying past 2020. At that point Reddick will be gone and possibly also Springer. What the heck will our outfield look like by then? Brantley and Pollock are great but can’t stay on the field, and I don’t know if McCutchen would still be worth it by then.
People say getting an outfielder is easier than a quality infielder. That’s true, but people forget how many mediocre players we’ve seen between Berkman and Pence and Springer.

I read an article this morning about the prospects it would take to get Realmuto over at House of Houston. The article indicated that in their opinion it would take Tucker, Nova, and Valdez to land Realmuto. I thought about that for a while and came to the conclusion that if it were me making that decision I would grit my teeth, rant and rave for hours on end, try everything in my power to reduce the package but in the end I would pull the trigger.
Getting a high end catcher is critical in keeping Verlander and Cole past this year and will help land a high end free agent. That is a lot to give up but I would stack the deals for Realmuto and a high end free agent starter and then pull the trigger on both.
