To much for him. Good luck in Tampa Morton.
I think the Astros are looking at Youth there and putting all there eggs in Whitleys basket.
I really hope they can resign both Verlander and Cole but I think itll be just one

If Cruz signs there it shows winning is not important to him. If the Ray win, it will be after he is too old to swing the bat.

Why do I get the feeling that Luhnow leaves the winter meetings without adding a damn thing?? All of this crap we heard yesterday about all the trade proposals and offers to free agents is all useless unless he actually gets the job done.

I don't think it's a bad contract if he stays reasonably healthy. As I've said all along, losing him isn't a big deal provided we DO GET somebody else. That's a nice chunk of change for Uncle Charlie. I hope he goes out with a bang. I have a feeling that he won't average more than 20 Starts over the next two years but we'll see.

Let's wait and see the money/years he gets before we judge too quickly. Morton gave us a lot of value (and I think he has another year or two in him, possibly), but he is still an aging health risk to give big money to. Might be a good move by the Rays, if Morton doesn't ask for a NTC... I think it's overall a fair contract for both sides. I just don't think Morton will stay healthy enough for that much money. He averaged 157 IP for us....157 IP for $15 million is quite a bit....

I understand not paying him as much as the Rays but the fact remains we still have only two spots in our rotation nailed down.

To think, Morton was pondering retirement two years ago before we signed him. He got a $14 million deal from us and has now turned it into an additional $30 million (maybe $45 million). In his final four seasons he is going to make more than he did in his previous 9 combined!

I'd say 3-4 spots nailed down between what we have in veterans and prospects. We still need at least one proven healthy veteran arm to slot in there though.

I hope Whitley is ready this season. We do have Peacock, who did better as a starter in 2017 than he did last season as a reliever. Josh James is an option, but, Valdez has to prove he can throw strikes before we can count on him. I hope we can make a deal for Fulmer and Castellanos.

They Phillies are like kids in a candy store, they are after everything. Probly overkill. Braves likely to regress with all the overachieving they did last yearTrue, the Stros took a step back after 15. The Nats poor showing last season opened up that division.

If I'm not mistaken, the Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla.

Astros are still paying Smokin Jon Singleton. $500,000 this year to buy out the $2.5 million club option for 2019. If I’m not mistaken, the team has options for 2020 ($5 million) and 2021 ($13 million) on him as well with each of those options having a $250,000 buy out.

It's hard for Charlie career-wise to do that well all the times he's been on the DL. Outside his stint with Houston, Morton's great for 10 weeks and then he'll tweak something. Or at least that's what Luhnow's gambling on. Morton and Kazmir are similar

It must have seemed like a good idea at the time: “Jeff Passan Jeff Passan @jeffpassan Jon Singleton details: $1.5M this year, $2M/year from 2015-18, $2.5M ($500K buyout) in 2019, $5M and $13M ($250K buyout each) in 2020, '21. 9:51 AM · Jun 3, 2014 “
