Sneed has just returned from the frozen wilderness of Alaska
Florida must be quite a change for him

Apparently Sneed likes the weather. Heck I counted 4 strikes against that last hitter (blind ump).

That was an impressive inning from Cy. His middle name wouldn't be Young, would it?

Next inning should be a good test of the speed game.
STrwa/Marisnick/Fisher due up.

The Nats broadcasters just called him Cy Young Sneed!

well, at least Sneed got halfway to Jim Deshaies' old feat of striking out 8 consecutive batters.

That's probably all fo tonight. But two impressive performances from pitchers NOT considered HOT Prospects. We really are loaded.

Straw beat that infield grounder out by what, three strides?

That's Quintana (minor league catcher) in at DH now, not Jake like the Nats broadcast is saying.

Straw said he aims to steal 100 bases this season. Getting started already!

why does Straw look like he really really wants to steal 3B?

Barnett threw 6 straight pitches outside the strike zone to Diaz, and he ended up striking out because he couldn't keep himself from hacking away out of charity.
He already gifted Scherzer an out in the first, what does he owe these guys?

Good start for Alvarez, 2 RBIs on the single
Got to love how the Astros are taking long, grinding ABs and making these pitchers work.
Last season the Astros were way below league average in the number of pitches seen per PA, and that really hurt the offense insofar as opposing starters stayed in games way longer than they should have. If they can keep pitchers throwing 20+ pitches per inning, they are going to see some pretty vulnerable parts of other teams' bullpens.

OK guys. I know it's spring training, but it is a BASEBALL game.

Abreu got three outs before thew Broadcasters could finish their Robinson stories. I don't think I've ever seen a player so low in the minor league system get put on the 40-man roster as Abreu. They must really like something about him.

Stubbs has raked at AAA so it's going to be very interesting to see if his bat works at the major league level. Maybe the Astros are sitting on their own version of Realmuto and the league just doesn't know it yet.

Quite the night for Tanielu... he kept getting put on the spot with his defense the entire first inning, now the 3-run shot to left.
Gonna be some entertaining ball for the fans in Round Rock this year.

Kind of surprised Hinch didn't allow Abreu to finish the inning.
He may be a candidate to skip the A+ level and just start the season in CC.

That was Steve Wrenn in CF who couldn't catch up to the fly ball. Too bad for Abreu; had Straw still been in the game, he probably wouldn't have been charged with a run.

Dawson's another speedster in the Astros minor league system. Good to see these guys taking some extra bases. It's been a missing element of the Astros game recently.

Man, Dawson stole both second and third. The 2021 Astros might swipe 120-150 bases.

Hartman looks a little nervous out there. People say lots of good things about him though. I expect him to be a contributor this year or next.

Josh Rojas could've ended the 8th inning if he hadn't botched the throw to 1st to complete a double play.

Minor league defense is killing us. At least two runs from defensive misplays.

Minor league defense is killing us. At least two runs from defensive misplays. I"m glad those guys will be staying the minors this year. Fortunately the Nats didn't go ahead in that inning - I'd like to see the Astros pitching staff get as many innings of practice as possible, so it would be disadvantageous if the bottom of the 9th didn't have to be played.

We get to see Brendan McCurry for the 9th.
His curveball sure looked good last spring. Time to see where it's at a year later.
