The two most populous cities got the most votes, shocker....but I do too see this happening if the Yankees can pull off the biggest SP acquisition at the trade deadline... They have the farm system to make a big offer. The good thing is if the Mets will actually trade Thor, they might not to the Yankees...... or if they actually would, I would think their asking price would be significantly higher than for other teams.

The voters were screwed since it couldn’t be the Yankees and Red Sox.

There was a fantastic article I read a couple years ago that talked about how our coddling of young pitchers is leading to weaker arms. I wish I could find it again. It talked about how we let an occasional injury to a well-known player affect how we treat other players, when in reality, it's important to keep strengthening, etc. When I was a kid we threw weighted balls, did long toss multiple times a weak, etc. But now they're worrying about kids doing that too much. I wish I could remember where I read it.... It went in to a lot of the science behind it.

I just had to look it up. Last pitcher to throw 300 innings? Phil Niekro in '79. Before then, almost every there was always a player over 300, and in many seasons...several.

Abraham Toro is on fire at AA. So far in tonight’s game he is 2-2 with a double and a home run. He is 20-41 in the month of July. With the departure of Reed from Round Rock I’ve gotta believe Toro will get the promotion to AAA soon.

Looks like our golden boy Whitley isn’t so golden. This from a BA dated July 9:
“Beyond the poor results, evaluators have consistently said that Whitley, who began the year as the youngest player in the Pacific Coast League, has displayed an immaturity on the mound so caustic that it has obfuscated his still-bright ceiling.
“His stuff was way down. In spring training, I saw a lot of stuff to like,” one scout said. “He looked great and like he was ready, and the kid I saw yesterday was a kid."

FU Man.....I got a Porsche already; a 911 with a quadrophonic Blaupunkt.
KIdding aside.... This sucks beyond belief.

KIdding aside.... This sucks beyond belief. The kid breezed through the minors with incredible ease until he got suspended last season. Now things aren’t coming so easily to him and he is not handling it well. This experience will either mature him or he will go the way of so many others who never realized their potential.

KIdding aside.... This sucks beyond belief. He has never experienced adversity. He grew up in Alamo Heights in an old money neighborhood. He excelled playing the game he loved. People said he was great and then he stubbed his toe. Now we get a chance to see how mentally strong he is. Better now than later.

I wonder if he is still considered “untouchable.” I’m thinking specifically about a trade for Syndergaard. Mets may not think it is the best time to deal Thor because he is having an off year. At the same time Luhnow may be having his doubts about Whitley due to the immaturity, but thinking now wouldn’t be the best time to deal him because he is struggling.

Please don’t tell me Whitley ends up being another Appel. If he does not pull his head out that is exactly what we wind up with. He got his big signing bonus. Now he has to have the drive and mental strength to deny himself physical comforts and drive deeply into keeping his body in top shape.

That's not going to work out if he's feeling good Monday and we don't have a SP to rotate

That's not going to work out if he's feeling good Monday and we don't have a SP to rotate The problem with the rotation is they’re trying to fix an issue that pretty much all of us realized was going to be an issue back before Spring Training.
