Apparently, Ivey got ejected from a game for having pine tar in his glove.

Trent Thornton (who went to Toronto in exchange for Aledmys Diaz) breezed through his first two MLB starts vs Detroit and Cleveland, but he finally got hit up yesterday vs Tampa. 5 runs on 8 hits over 3 innings. Well, it's a tough game.
Anyway, it will be interesting to compare what type of player Diaz becomes and what type of player Thornton becomes.

I always though he was very underrated.

kFrom games played April 12:
AAA - Round Rock 4 Memphis 2 Myles Straw CF: 1-4, BA .314 ... stole a base(5) ... Astros #16 prospect per mlb.com Derek Fisher RF: 2-5, 1 HR(5), BA .290 ... has almost as many HRs(5) as Ks(6) in 31 ABs so far this year. If he keeps this up, maybe Luhnow can get a good return for him in a trade before the deadline this year. Jack Mayfield SS: 1-4, BA .393 AJ Reed 1B: 2-4, 1 2B, BA .148 Kyle Tucker LF: 0-3, BA .103 ... on the bright side, he struck out 9 times in his first 16 ABs this year, but has not stuck out in his last 13 ABs. Hopefully, if they are adjusting his swing, he is beginning to make the adjustment ... Astros #2 prospect. Nick Tanielu 2B: 1-4, BA .217 Taylor Jones DH: 1-4, BA .190 Garrett Stubbs C: 2-3, BA .200 ... stole a base(1) ... has thrown out 2 of 3 runners attempting to steal on him this year ... Astros #14 prospect Alex De Goti 3B: 0-2, BA .148 ... stole a base(1) Corbin Martin RHP: 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K, ERA 2.70 ... Astros #5 prospect Ralph Garza RHP: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, ERA 6.75 Framber Valdez LHP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, ERA 0.00 ... Astros #11 prospect
AA - Amarillo 5 Corpus Christi 1 Ronnie Dawson RF: 0-4, BA .148 ... the slow start continues. He should start heating up in a month or so ... Astros #13 prospect Chas McCormick LF: 0-2, BA .261 ... stole a base(1) Stephen Wrenn CF: 1-4, 1 3B, BA .333 ... here is an interesting guy. He was drafted in the 6th round in June 2016. For a while he was ranked in the 20-30 range of the mlb.com Top 30 Astros prospects. Coming into this season his career batting average was .255ish. Two stats that jump out to me.... last season at AA he stole 44 bases in 54 attempts. For his minor league career he has more than twice as many (19) outfield assists as he has errors committed (8). If he can maintain his base stealing and defense numbers and continue to hit as well as he has so far this season, he could become a decent trade asset. Abraham Toro 3B: 1-4, BA .233 Astros #23 prospect Chuckie Robinson C: 1-4, BA .192 Carmen Benedetti DH: 1-4, BA .158 JJ Matijevic 1B: 2-3, BA .154 ... Astros #22 prospect Anibal Sierra 2B: 0-3, BA .120 Osvaldo Duarte SS: 1-3, BA .273 Tyler Ivey RHP: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, ERA 1.50 ... was ejected at the beginning of the 3rd inning after the umpires inspected his glove ... Astros #17 prospect Colin McKee RHP: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, ERA 4.26 Ronel Blanco RHP: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, ERA 4.15 Kit Scheetz LHP: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, ERA 6.75 Brendan Feldmann RHP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, ERA 0.00
Advanced A - Myrtle Beach 6 Fayetteville 1 Jacob Meyers CF: 0-4, BA .172 Corey Julks RF: 0-4, BA .233 Seth Beer LF: 1-4, BA .281 ... Astros #10 prospect Jake Adams 1B: 1-4, BA .296 Colton Shaver 3B: 0-2, BA .269 Scott Manea C: 1-3, BA .346 Jonathan Arauz SS: 0-3, BA .138 ... Astros #25 prospect Michael Papierski DH: 1-3, BA .192 Alfredo Angarita 2B: 0-2, BA .200 JP France RHP: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, ERA 9.53 Leovanny Rodriguez RHP: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, ERA 4.50 Hunter Martin RHP: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, ERA 0.00 Enoli Paredes RHP: 3 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, ERA 1.50 ... Astros #28 prospect Tommy DeJuneas RHP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, ERA 4.15
A - Quad Cities 8 Wisconsin 3 Trey Dawson 3B: 1-4, BA .273 David Hensley PH/3B: 0-1, BA .143 Enmanuel Valdez 2B: 0-3, BA .259 Austin Dennis PH/2B: 0-1, BA .000 Jeremy Pena SS: 2-5, 1 3B, BA .207 ... stole a base(2) ... Astros #27 prospect Cesar Salazar C: 2-4, 1 2B, BA .292 Alex Holderbach PH/C: 0-1, BA .167 Scott Schreiber 1B: 1-3, 1 2B, BA .346 Jonathan Lacroix DH: 2-3, BA .296 stole a base(3) Marty Costes LF: 1-4, 1 3B, BA .278 Andy Pineda RF: 1-3, BA .300 Ross Adolph CF: 1-4, 1 2B, BA .148 ... Astros #30 prospect Cody Deason RHP: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, ERA 7.50 RJ Freure RHP: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, ERA 1.35 Willy Collado RHP: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, ERA 0.00

If he can maintain his base stealing and defense numbers and continue to hit as well as he has so far this season, he could become a decent trade asset. I was reading that MadBum has shown a nearly league-leading improvement this season in both his spin rate and velocity. He is definitely making a case that he is back from injury and a force to be reckoned with. We know that Luhnow and Strom love the high spinrate guys, so maybe MadBum will be on their July radar. The players OlPapa mentions above would be some of the ones I'd ask about if I were in SF's shoes. If the Astros could trade some blocked prospects like Fisher, Tanielu, and/or Straw for MadBum and Will Smith (the reliever not the actor), that would make the team much more competitive in the postseason.

A MadBum trade at the deadline could energize the club the same way the Verlander and Randy Johnson trades did. The Giants will ask for and get more than what you proposed on your previous post. However, I think it would be awesome if the Astros could acquire Bumgarner. I think then they would be the proverbial favorites to win the WS.

I would think that, since he will be a FA at the end of this season, Luhnow would have to believe he had a good chance to re-sign him before he would offer Straw in any deal. I really think Straw is a part of the team’s plans for the future.
