Speaking of our Tee Hitter, Astros are 14-4 since August 20 without I L Correa Astros went 15-12...a .556 winning pct...while Springer was on the IL from May 25-June 24. So far the Astros are 14-4... a .778 winning pct... without Correa since August 20.

Kent Emanuel with a nice start for Round Rock tonight. 8 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 6 K I was real excited when we got Emanuel, thought he would become something. he looked like hammered goat crap in spring training and started the year real slow but seems to have figured something out here lately. I am looking at Kent Emanuel’s game logs for this year and his career stats. Something that stands out to me is that over the course of the season his GO/AO ratio increased steadily from 0.67 in his first game to a career high 1.79 at the end of the season. As his GO/AO ratio increased over the course of the season, his WHIP and BAA numbers steadily decreased to career bests for full season ball of 1.19 WHIP and 2.54 BAA at the end of the season. This compared to his 2018 numbers at AAA... 1.24 GO/AO, 1.59 WHIP and .308 BAA. I wonder if he has added a new pitch or changed something in his grip or/and delivery this season to induce more ground balls.

Neither Round Rock nor Fayetteville have announced their starter for tonight’s games. I’m guessing Kent Emanuel for Round Rock and either Austin Hansen or Nivaldo Rodriguez for Fayetteville.

If we're going to be brutally honest, a healthy Correa is better than a healthy Springer if you look at both offense and defense, collectively. But, Correa can't stay healthy, and you have to factor in how fantastic Springer has been in the postseason.
It if came down to one or the other, you have to go with Springer. Although I'd take Cole over both if we were limited. What Cole is capable of doing on the mound the next few years is invaluable, and we have some young OFers with potential.

I like your priority list.
The problem is getting a decision on Cole quickly in an environment where decisions come less than 24 hours from deadlines. It might be time to revisit contract talk during the season, particularly extensions.

None of them are going to be easy, and, frankly, I don't think we'll be able to keep any of them. Sadly... Springer is our best hope, imo.

A bigger problem is the fact that Boras is Cole’s agent and Boras always pushes his clients to test free agency, rather than re-sign with their current team during the season.

Astros and Boris were successful in getting an extension on Altuve's contract Astros gave Jose a chance when nobody else would have. I think he wanted to be a Astro for life and I’m sure he made that clear to Boras. I don’t see Cole doing that. I hope I’m wrong.

I used to think he was going to LA or New York City, but lately I'm starting a very positive about him staying here... I think we the top clubhouses in the MLB and I think Crane/Luhnow will be extremely competitive with their offer... Plus we have the STROMFATHER!

It was negotiated in the offseason and signed in March 2018, prior to opening day.

Maybe after we win this world series, Luhnow gets on a knee and proposes to Cole with a big contract This quote from Cole about a week ago sounds encouraging: “It’s nice to run alongside of him, that’s for sure,” Cole said of Verlander.” Maybe Cole would like to stick around past this year. I definitely think Crane and Luhnow will make a very competitive offer to him. Whether that will be enough to satisfy his agent remains to be seen.

If the general pitching theory the Astros like for their fast ball pitchers holds, they might have worked on elevating the fastball leading to more pop flies while throwing the breaking balls in the same arm slot.
I'm wondering if there was also an increase in SO/9 as the season progressed.

I'm under the impression that Boras isn't the boogeyman that he used to be. Teams finally quit quaking in the boots when he walked in. And lots of players have left him for other agents over the last few years.
