It's now official. Well I had a link to a video about Altuve being officially placed on the IL, but it's not working. What can you expect form a 21st century Luddite.
I'll try his way without the video.

Bumperino. Let's get this guy going again. If Altuve hits, the others will follow.

Altuve seems to have problems making adjustments and his footwork at the plate is messed up.

Altuve seems to have problems making adjustments and his footwork at the plate is messed up. The only reason why his pull-happy approach was palatable was because of his power. If he’s struggling to slam line drives, I’d like to see a more all-fields approach.

Well, his AVG has gone up 20 points so far since coming back. That's encouraging.

And Altuve got his 250th career stolen base last night. It's not a major thing, but it's interesting that he'll have 1500 Hits, 250 SBs, 100 HR all before turning 30.
He's now hitting .340 since coming back (although with less power and walking then before, so his overall OPS is only about 20 points better....still, it's progress!).
I was looking at how he compared to some other similar players and it's pretty interesting. (First 9 seasons)
Altuve: 1472 Hits 250 SB 107 HR 282 Doubles 489 RBI 674 Runs .314 AVG 126 OPS+ Sandberg: 1395 Hits 250 SB 139 HR 226 Doubles 549 RBI 756 Runs .285 AVG 112 OPS+ Gwynn: 1531 Hits 238 SB 49 HR 221 Doubles 488 RBI 696 Runs .329 AVG 129 OPS+
Obviously, Altuve has some time to add to those numbers this year still, but the pace he is on put's him very squarely in the middle of those two iconic Hall of Famers. All three of them were 6-time All-Stars in their first 9 seasons. Sandberg also had an MVP award like Altuve. Altuve had more SS awards but less GGs.

Altuve on a great pace for 3000 hits and the HOF.

As long as he stays healthy. Pedroia looked on pace for the Hall also and he quickly ended up nada.

Altuve on a great pace for 3000 hits and the HOF. I think he will make both. 3250 hits, 200 HRs, 400 SBs.

If he keeps his career AVG over .300 and reaches 2000 Hits and 300 SB, I think he'll be a lock due to his popularity and the awards he has already received. Anything past those numbers would be gravy.
As with all great players, I hope he decides to go out before he hits rock bottom.

Before his IL stint: .243/.329/.472 .801 OPS (114 OPS+) Since his IL stint: .274/.333/.483 .816 OPS (115 OPS+)
Since his return he is hitting .322 with an .840 OPS. I know he hasn't greatly added to his OPS, but I feel better about his approach with him getting more singles. I don't believe he has the power to maintain what he was doing earlier in the year. This recent performance is more like his real approach that got him to be who he is and makes him so fun to watch. I hope he keeps trying to move the ball around and picks it up on the basepaths a little. I don't know if he can or not, but I'd love to see him get up to around 15-20 stolen bases if he is feeling good.
He hasn't gotten his OPS this high since May 6th, and his AVG hasn't been this high since 4/24.
Currently on pace for:
21 HR 53 RBI 64 Runs 110 Hits 22 Doubles 3 SB

Since he figured out he needed to open up his stance so that he could see the ball with both eyes he is killing it. My guess is that he will have 85 hits in his next 250 at bats so whatever that figures out to be.

He's about a .299 hitter with a .773 OPS the final two months of the season. Course, he did get a little extra rest this year so who knows?

So if he does get 85 hits over the next 250 at bats he will be slightly over 300 for the year

So if he does get 85 hits over the next 250 at bats he will be slightly over 300 for the year If he can manage to reach and maintain a .300 AVG and an .850+ OPS by the end of the year despite a miserable start to the season (outside of a fluke-ish week-long HR tear in Apr), I'll be truly impressed.

I was skeptical Altuve would have a typical season for him just weeks after getting his knee scoped

Now on pace for:
22 HR 56 RBI 64 Runs 115 Hits 22 Doubles 5 SB
Currently back up to: .277/.333/.492 .826 OPS (116 OPS+)
If he reaches the .838 OPS mark, it would officially be his 3rd highest OPS for a season. (Only 6th highest OPS+ though.) Normally he has a higher OBP and lower SLG.
P.S. 9 more Hits for 1500 and 1 more RBI for 500.

Hit the .280+ mark for the first time since coming back. OPS up to .837 (119 OPS+). Man, he looked fast as hell on that infield single last night. He must finally be feeling really good. A big game could have him get close or reach .290 today.

I love seeing him poop on the posters here who were asking if he was in rapid decline and that it was a mistake to sign him to his new contract.

I don't think it's unreasonable to be concerned about decline (especially after a knee surgery for a speedy guy). But I don't know why anybody would have been against him receiving that new contract though. Even if he never does better than what he did even in 2018 he's worth the contract. Even if he only continues to do what do what he does in 2018 for the rest of this contract even, he'll still be a first ballot HoFer.
All I'll add, is that I'd rather we see an uptick in his AVG, OBP and stolen bases rather than an uptick in HRs. Kind of like what he was doing last year before the knee issues. We don't need more power guys, we need more guys getting on base, moving runners, and wreaking havoc on the basepaths. And it would be nice to see his defense get back to the modestly above-average standard that he has set in recent years.

People need to understand that you can’t always be cheap. Sooner or later, you need to take care of who got you there, and if an MVP doesn’t deserve to get his big money, then who does?

^^^ It all boils down to what HAVE you DONE for me LATELY. Too many people are hung up on that. It happens at work all the time. Boss is like what have you done lately to deserve that raise.
