It was good to get a win against a team with a respectable record, but the offense was still "meh" outside of McCann's HR. 2-9 with RISP and the lineup shuffle sure didn't inspire Springer or Altuve.
This game worries me because Cole is due for poor-mediocre start. Nobody maintains that level of dominance and I could see him giving up some HRs to some of these Mariners.

Keep Cano in check for a year plus has been nice. That guy has ripped the Stros since joining the Mariners.

Leake is likely to be a much harder starter to hit than Marco Gonzalez tomorrow. If the Astros can win today, they have a good chance of taking the series.

With Cole matching up against Leake, I give us the advantage there. We should also have it tomorrow with Morton going for us. Now, if the bats can heat up we will be fine.

Astros managed 9 hits yesterday and also some very well-struck balls that just happened to be hit right at fielders. That's really not so bad.
Those high strikeout rates by Jake and Fisher have of course been suppressing the Astros' hit count since not only are those two players not hitting, but pitchers can pitch around the guys preceding them in order to get to the easy K. Right now the Astros' K% is 6th highest out of the 15 AL teams. But if Jake and Fisher had struck out half as much as they have (let's say 25% instead of 50%), the Astros' K% would be 11th highest of the 15 AL teams.
Once Jake and Fisher either come around or get replaced by better hitters, the Astros should be seeing lots of games with 12 or more hits, which would be lethal with this year's pitching staff.

One thing that has stuck out since AJ took over the helm of the Stros, he will not throw any of this players under the bus. If you put it into perspective he did not have such a great MLB career, and was a career minor leaguer and knows the struggles. As on the old MLB.com board how people called for Fisher to stay after his debut and threw White under the bus, it is vise versa now. AJ knows the struggles, and there probably no rush on Tucker. But one wonders on how long the patience for Jake, the last two games have been some of his worst performances I have witnessed.

In Asia, tonight's game will start on April 19. The Anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and the start of the American Revolution. The "Shot Heard Round the World".
Wouldn't it be nice if the Astros hitters could launch a barrage of home runs in honor of this day.

Platooning is in our club DNAWhen you think back to that time period, the Stros got good production from those guys and they were teams that struggled for runs.

I wonder how much Cole being 4th in the rotation has anything to do with dominant start this season. Less pressure

This feels weird to say about someone batting .310 but Jose seems off lately.
