This’ll be the least exciting draft ever as a Texans fan.

yes it will. No pick until late the second day. Then it does get interesting, not exciting but interesting, for a couple of hours then it will be time to go back to sleep.

So there's some kind of draft going on that doesn't have to do with beer?

Well the nfl draft is upon us this week. I usually invest a great deal of time and effort into predicting who the Texans will draft and then watch as they go an entirely different direction. This year I am sure will be the same. I will list the guys I would like to see us draft and then a short report on each. I will start with our pick at 68.
Tyrell Crosby OT.
Here is what the scouts say about him;
Evaluators may stick with Crosby at right tackle in the pros, but his issues with hip tightness and gaining enough ground to the edge in pass protection may force a move inside to guard sooner rather than later. Crosby has technical issues to smooth out, but he will appeal to teams who covet size, length and strength as he puts big checkmarks in those boxes. Crosby is a bulldozer who can generate good movement in the run game, but he lacks the body control for desired consistency at tackle or guard. He has NFL starting talent but he may have a limited upside
I think this guy would be our starting RT this year and beyond.

For our pick at #80 I think we go with this guy and pair him with Foreman for the next few years. This guy has ratings anywhere from mid 2 to high 4th round so taking him here
Rashard Penny RB
Here is what the scouts say about him;
Volume-carry running back who plays with an active running style that rarely sees him slow his feet. Penny has the short-area foot quickness to create yardage for himself, but he doesn't really have the burst or long speed to be a homerun hitter. His motor gives him a chance to be a productive NFL starter, but he may lack the explosiveness to be a great back.

The guy I would like to see us take at #98 would be this guy. He really impressed me when I watched the Tight End drills at the Combine. The guy is real sudden and seems to have pretty good hands.
Ian Thomas Tight End
Here is what the scouts have to say about him;
Thomas reminds me of Jermaine Gresham when he came out of Oklahoma, not the version you see today. Like Gresham, Thomas has the bend and "man strength" to become a successful in-line blocker if he improves his hand placement and grit. His production is lacking due to shorter two-year run at Indiana and a senior season filled with injuries, but it is easy to see NFL ability that just needs coaching and more experience. Thomas is an ascending combination tight end with an ability to become a good NFL starter who can be flexed around the field

The next guy has some developmental issues and will need to definitely a back up this year but has the chance to really be a very good OT for the Texans down the road.
Chukwuma Okorafor OT
Here is what the scouts say about this guy;
Okorafor's size and potential will likely get him drafted earlier than where the tape says he should go. While he has plus physical traits, inconsistencies with balance and instincts could be a challenge to correct. He has the feet to handle speed rushers, but multi-move rushers could eat his lunch early on. Okorafor will need to play with much better consistency and toughness on the next level to become an average NFL starter.

It is kind of foolish to even try to do a mock. I like to do them though because I like knowing who guys are that we draft when we draft them. The research allows me to do that. If we can not get the guys that I listed some other guys who would fill needs for us are:
Amari Watts S Will Richardson OT Trayvon Henderson OT Quin Branding FS Matthew Thomas LB
Any of the guys listed here or in the previous posts would be good gets for the Texans

I thought they reached at TE in the 3rd.....But I do like their 6th round pick, Duke Ejiofor and their 7th pick: CB, Jermaine Kelly

I guess a couple of these guys were drafted to enhance special teams. A good idea given how poorly special teams have been.

Brandon Weeden is coming back as back up QB. Oh boy! There is a better option available, but he won't even get a look. I challenge that assertion. We don't need no CaperKucklehead. Poison is poison and he is assuredly poison to all he touches. Now if he need crowdfunding for a one way ticket to see his hero six feet under, then I'll be first in line.

The irony that is Colin Kaepernick is that he was abandoned by his black father and taken in by a white couple, yet he protests white on black violence and racism. He sometimes does do a pretty good video though.

He sometimes does do a pretty good video though. Real racism is always assuming that every interaction between blacks and whites results in white racism toward innocent blacks because whites are bad and blacks are always victims. It's wrong to assume anything on the basis of race. There's plenty of evil in both races and plenty of good as well. You just have to go in without preconceptions.

Houston still has holes to fill and they have 35 million left of their salary cap. Some good prospects out there, we just need to bring them into the fold.

Smith needs to go too. Trying to justify stupid behavior and railing against the real world consequences of insulting a large percentage of your customers just shows he's unworthy of a stage to perform his tired act.
He and his buddies are free to be stupid (outside of the workplace), but the consequences are real, whether he likes it or not.
32 owners making the same individual analysis is not collusion. It's marketing.

The NFL gets so muddled with in-house politics, rule changes, and behavioral issues that it’s losing its identity. This is precisely why I don’t want Manfred meddling with the MLB. Enforce the rules that exist, stop tinkering, and avoid strikes.

I don't like all the changes to the games. The rules should be simpler, not more difficult to understand, and enforce... That goes for all 4 of the major sports' leagues...
With regards to player discipline, all 4 leagues should have similar rules in place. Work together, and show the athletes that they have to behave to be a part of it...
As far as the political stuff goes, just put in writing what is allowed, and expected... Anybody who doesn't comply, let them work for a living, and show them how easy they had it...

NBA requires them to dress in a suit for games, if they are not playing. And it is mandatory to stand for the National anthem.
