It wouldn't surprise me if an offseason failure to shore up the OF results in moving Correa to LF, and going with a soft bat at 3B The roster has enough pieces under contract to field a team albeit a weaker lineup Maybe put Altuve in LF and put a stronger arm with more range at 2B. I have to believe he is hiding an arm injury of some type. You can tell from his throwing motion that something is off. If he can't throw, he can't play the outfield.

It's sad to me that Springer, Brantley, and Reddick all will be an Astro for only about 6 more hours.

We might have a shot at bringing Brantley back. Can't wait to have Reddick gone. I am all for letting Reddick walk. We may not be able to sign either Springer or Brantley, but, we need to make a hard push for both of them. Our offense would suffer greatly without them and we have nobody to replace either of them unless we sign other free agents. I see nobody started a game thread for tonight's game so reality must be setting in. I am going to watch the game and hope we put up a hell of a fight even if we lose. i also hope we don't see a repeat performance from the over-rated little jackass who threw away the last two games. We gave up a total of 9 runs........Altuve's throwing errors created EIGHT of them. Yet, Dusty pulled Urquidy out and gave up in the process. That is why I want Baker gone. What pitcher can have confidence in a a manager who pulls shit like that and bascially blames him for the screw up made by Altuve? As Pedro Martinez said after the game, pulling Urquidy made no sense and was a bad move. It is a shame that it is a typical Dusty Baker move in the post season. We won't win a damn thing until he's gone.

Initially I was very pessimistic about the Astros signing Springer. Now I kind of feel they may make a splash and do it... We'll see.

So hear me out, I know we all like Springer...but if you had the money to sign him, why not look at JT Realmuto instead?
You're looking at a GG-caliber catcher that could likely hit 30 HRs with a .340 OBP if he DHed or played 1B when he wasn't catching. I know Maldonado had a solid year, but he's really better as a backup for a full season.
Just food for thought.

I'd spend the money on Springer in a heartbeat......not so much on Realmuto. I'd rather pay the guy who has helped us win a WS and could for several more seasons. We can improve our offense and catching without paying over the top for Realmuto.

If you’re that valuable as a hitter, you’ll be moved to a cushier spot like 1B (Gurriel) or LF, which means giving up on Brantley unless you’re making him the main DH. What do you then do with Álvarez?

Altuve 2B Brantley LF/RF Bregman 3B/SS Yordan DH/LF Realmuto C/1B/LF Tucker RF/LF/CF Correa SS Gurriel 1B/3B/2B Diaz 3B/1B/2B/LF Throw in another veteran FA OFer that's solid to go with Maldonado, Straw, and Stubbs and you're pretty well set.

I realize that good hitting catchers are very hard to find. I also prefer rewarding those who have produced for us and lead us to titles over players who are good but have not been on teams that have won anything. Yes, we will have to pay a lot for Springer........A player of his caliber doesn't come cheap in today's market. He is worth every bit as much as Altuve or Bregman and more than Altuve.

Straw hasn't proven to be worthy of a spot on the roster without showing a lot of improvement. We crapped on Stubbs and told him he wasn't as good as Garneau so we must not expect much from him. Diaz is a utility player.....not a regular. We need to strengthen the bench and sign a FA starting pitcher plus keeping Springer and Brantley.

In any case, I'm just putting it out there for discussion. I'm not saying I would necessarily do it.

Any thoughts on trading Correa, to get some much needed top level prospects? It depends. If they're willing to find ways to spend money and keep a good offense going, I would say no and let's try and have another great run next year. If they're not willing to add much more to the payroll I would say yes. Try to quickly re-tool with some high level prospects around a core of Bregman, Altuve, Tucker, and Yordan. I'm greatly encouraged by some of the young pitchers or else I would say we need to look at more of an actual rebuild. But, since we do have that core of offensive players for multiple years, and a rotation that seems more than adequate based around Urquidy, Framber, and Javier I don't think we need to fully rebuild. Our biggest competition to continue this nice postseason run of success are Oakland and Seattle. But Seattle still lacks pitching, and Oakland is probably going to lose Semien and can't afford much more payroll. We still have a window to be successful for a few more years. Maybe not the elite team that we've been, but a contender. I guess you have to ask yourself if you want to be good but probably not great for a few years, or do you want to suck with the hopes of being elite again in a few years but no guarantees?

Once you have a taste of true victory, WS ring, just being good enough to to win in a weak division, shouldn't be the accepted mindset.... Retool around your centerpiece of Altuve, Bregman, Tucker, Yordan, Valdez and Urquidy....hopefully the players you drafted in the last couple years of years can start adding to that foundation.... Plus you make a trade or fine diamond the rough players through FA.

Todd forgot to mention that Oakland likely will also be losing LaStella and Hendriks and getting Chapman coming off hip surgery. That’s big. I see the Angels as getting stronger, especially if they buy Hendriks. That’s the real threat to the Astros.

I’m not so sure we could get someone’s blue chips for Correa since he’s gonna be a free agent in 12 months. He has an injury history wherein he consistently struggles to get 500 PAs a season. Whatever haul we could get for him would likely be optimal at the trade deadline next season if he’s having a monster year the Astros are out of contention, and he’d be a good fit for someone in the race for two months, like when the Dodgers rented Machado a couple years ago
I don’t know about top prospects though

For some reason, the Angels have always over-spent on position players while ignoring pitching needs. The pitchers they spent money on turned out to be flops like CJ Wilson. Garrett Richards could never stay healthy. Their rotation has always been in shambles while they spent millions on Pujols, Trout, and Rendon. I don't worry about the Rangers or the Mariners. I still think our top challenger will be the A's. I also think we have to include Springer in that group of core players with Bregman, Correa, Altuve, and our young pitchers. Nobody agrees but George Springer is more important to that group of core players than Altuve. If we could deal him, we'd have the money to go after Realmuto and a solid FA starting pitcher.
