Springer is now dealing with a quad issue that could delay his return. He was taking batting practice and running the bases to prepare for his debut tomorrow and has now been sent for an MRI.

1. Springer is on pace to make his season debut on Thursday. Let's see how long he can stay healthy now. 2. James Paxton is hurt AGAIN. You wouldn't sign or extend anyone who has ever had a couple of injuries. Does this mean if Altuve starts missing time that we should dump him?

Yes. I had a similar labrum issue in my hip that ended my baseball "career". Nearly 4 decades later it still gives me trouble from time to time. If the tear is in his throwing shoulder he's probably screwed, and so are the Padres. Good thing he’s not a pitcher. Although, it never stopped Chris Carpenter. Well it did and it didn't. He missed a lot of time.

He's already under contract with no adequate replacement, so no. That wouldn't make sense. If he started to consistently miss long periods of time would I say extend him again? Not unless he was cheap. And you're right, I have a problem with committing big money to oft-injured players. Poor investments.

Man, the Yankees traded for Odor. Dallas is paying most of the 28 mil, though.

I tend to agree on the long-term deals for oft-injured players, especially if they have some age on them and the injuries have been severe. For a guy like Correa who has not had major injuries, a deal of up to five years would be OK as long as the money was right. Right now, Carlos wants a hell of a lot more than he is worth or should get. He needs to have a solid year to be worth the money he has already turned down.

I don't know why the Yankees want him unless they think they can correct his hitting problems. Rangers were fools to give him that money and I think it's funny that they get to pay him to be a damn Yankee. LOL

Major injuries or not, if they're made of glass with minor issues where they get put down every year, their value should be limited. I would have been totally fine with a 5-6 year deal for Correa in the $150 range. It's a lot of money and several seasons, but even if we only got 80-120 games a season, he'd probably be worth it during the stints when he did play. Especially if he can show up in big moments. However, the market will likely dictate that he can make in the $200 range over 7-8 years, and he's just too big of a risk at that figure to me. Maybe if he can stay healthy this year and do well.... But if he does that, he'd likely want even more. I have a feeling he'll be gone and we'll be looking at Storey or Semien as a replacement.

Does anyone know why Jeremy Jeffress was cut by the Nationals, and then why no one picked him up? Any reason why Rick Porcello and Shane Greene have not been signed?

The only way to get a deal done that satisfied Correa and his inflated opinion of his own value and the teams realistic risk for a long term deal was one with mutual options. Neither side wanted it so let’s hope he has a great year and moves to Miami next year. We will be sitting pretty here to add whoever we want so long as they are interested.

Astros are in tremendous shape for 2021-2022 off-season.
If they think Pena is the heir apparent, then they don't have to sign a multi year deal at SS. There is also Nova (plus defense, average ceiling for offense) Plus, they could always move Bregman to SS, and go after a 3B.
I think if they don't get Carlos to sign a deal they feel comfortable in offering, then just offer him a QO.
If Carlos plays elsewhere next season, the best course of action might be the less risky approach, one to two year deals to: Crawford SS, Simmons SS, Seimen, Seagar 3B or Escobar 3B. Might not be as exciting as Correa, Baez, Seagar SS, Arenado, Bryant or Ramirez, but it doesn't bound the team to an expensive contract for multiple years.
And use that money to spend elsewhere. A veteran pitcher, another OF and 1B.

Seager is unexciting to me compared to guys like Story and Báez, but I like his hitting for his position. I’m not sure if I’d move two guys to different positions to have Seager at 3B and Bregman at SS, but it’s worth a shot. Defensively, Simmons would be a great stopgap acquisition.

This is probably not going to happen, but Kris Bryant to 3B and Bregman to SS would be an interesting move. And getting a BRYANT on the team is just a bonus. I'd love to find a way to keep Verlander and Greinke, but I don't see keeping either as probable, much less both of them. But pretend we do and keep Gurriel.
1. R Altuve 2B 2. L Brantley LF 3. R Bregman SS 4. L Alvarez DH 5. R Bryant 3B
6. L Tucker CF 7. R Gurriel 1B 8. R McCormick RF 9. R Castro C
Rotation
1. R Greinke 2. R Verlander
3. R McCullers
4. L Valdez
5. R Oderizzi
With these starters, there should be a lot of talent in the BP.

I want to investigate what we could do about Verlander and Greinke. My dream signing would be getting Arenado to play 3B and move Bregman to SS. I haven't looked over the FA list so I don't know who all would be available, but, spending money on pitching, another power hitter in the OF or !B would be wise.

It'd be difficult to pawn off Tatis after he recently admitted he's had shoulder trouble since rookie ball. Ownership should pray for some Disney magic thereI didn't know the previous problem he had with his shoulder. But you are talking about a demanding position of shortstop where you have to range from your left to your right on ground balls, that can easily lead to hyperextend it again. The Padres might have to think twice with the switch of Manny and Tatis to give him reign at short.
