What does anyone know about two pitchers we signed to minor league deals this week? One of them is Lawson and I don't remember the other one.

They signed another one a couple of days before getting Lawson. Doing a little research I see the other one was Nolan Riggs. Looks like they sent him to Corpus. www.milb.com/player/nolan-riggs-642012 Paredes is being sent to Corpus on a rehab assignment. I hope that means we have him back soon. Anyone have an update on Baez or Taylor?

Báez rakes the infield dirt between innings. Post of the year! Your boy Ronnie Dawson is off to a good start at Sugarland. If he maintains his productivity for another month or so and Straw continues to struggle, I wonder if Dawson will get a shot with the Astros and Straw get sent down.

Sugarland is 3-0 to start the season and they have scored 34 runs in those three games. I don’t know if the Skeeters are that good or the Albuquerque pitchers are that bad.

I guess I missed something because I didn't see anything in Dawson to get excited about. I'd rather see Leon.

Straw has done nothing to earn his job. He can’t read routes or pitchers, doesn’t steal enough, or bunt. Keep the carousel of tryouts going.

No doubt Dawson has been a disappointment since the Astros took him in the second round of the 2016 draft. I don’t think you really want to see Leon yet. The guy is 1-19 with 11 strikeouts at AA so far. On the bright side he did manage to go 0-3 without striking out in last night’s game.

Dawson had another good game today for Sugarland. He went 1-2 with a double and 3 walks. He also had an outfield assist. Threw a runner out at home. He’s batting .375. His OBP is .583.

Papa, is everything ok in your part of town? Around 5:00 I got called out to work due to flooding. Not even a mile from the house I got to watch a high water rescue. Go home from the office about 30 minutes ago to find my house is flooded. The creek beside me is overflowing. Outside of spending time with Mom and the Stros game, today has been a crappy day.

Dawson is a good average baseball player with a little pop and good speed. He is not as fast as Straw, but a better overall player. He probably will never have a batting avg above .260 but he plays good defense, hits decent and runs well for a decent size guy.

Everything is fine out here at our place. Our house is up high on a hill. I don’t know if the water got over my driveway or not. I have 5 feet diameter culvert under my driveway where it crosses a draw between my house and the main road coming to our place. Water has been over the driveway there once since we built the driveway in 2014. Water didn’t damage the driveway then. Hope it doesn’t this time. My biggest concern right now is whether my pond will rise enough that it flows over the dam. I have the pond stocked with bass and channel cat. If the pond overflows the dam I am going to lose some good fish.

He batted 5 times, walked twice and singled twice. I know it is a small sample size, but so far in 6 games his OBP is .588 and BA is .391. Looking at his career batting stats, one thing jumped out at me. Prior to this season he has struck out 2 - 3 times for each walk every season. So far this season he has walked 10 times and struck out just 3 times in 34 plate appearances. Obviously he is taking a different approach at the plate so far this season.

Maybe the Astros should promote the Sugarland hitting coach to the big club. After 6 games the skeeters have 9 players who have a batting average of .300 or higher and an OPS of .800 or higher.

Who deserves a roster spot more? I don’t know that one deserves a roster spot more than the other. What I do know is that Dawson is off to a very good start at AAA and McCormick is not doing much with the limited playing time he has seen with the Astros. That said, I don’t see any reason to bring up Dawson if he is going to play no more than McCormick has. I have been a fan of Straw as he has progressed through the Astros minor league system. I believe he is capable of doing more with the bat and I KNOW he is a better glove man than he has shown so far this season. He had the CF job handed to him after Springer left. I’m thinking he may have become too comfortable and needs to be pushed. If I was going to bring up Dawson, I think I would send Straw down to AAA keep McCormick on the big league roster and insert Dawson in the Astros starting lineup in CF.

Some guys needs to be pushed in order to get them to produce. That could very well be the case with Straw. They need to push him and find out.
