I don’t know if I would consider Siri one of our top future hitters. He is 25 years old, has been playing pro ball since 2013. He has been with the Reds, Mariners and Giants organizations before signing with Houston as a free agent. As far as I can tell he has never been called up to a major league team. Zach Daniels, Korey Lee?... Come on, throw us a bone here.... All kidding aside..., here are the hitters currently in our minor league system who I think have a legitimate shot at being successful in MLB in the future: Korey Lee C - High A Asheville - So far he has shown to be pretty consistent from month to month. His BAs by month in his milb career: 2019 - June .273, July .256, August .273.... 2021 - May .326, June .294. I like that he is hitting both righties (BA .321) and lefties (BA .318) well in 2021. He strikes out once every 4+ ABs..... not great, but not horrible either. He has thrown out 7 of 14 runners attempting to steal in 2021. Pedro Leon CF/SS - AA Corpus Christi - He had a really tough time getting his feet on the ground. His May was awful.... 33 strikeouts in 75 ABs vs just 7 BBs.... .173 BA, .564 OPS. The month of June has been a much different story and, I believe, indicative of the kind of talent he possesses. June numbers so far: 4 strikeouts in 22 ABs vs 8 BBs...., .409 BA, 1.399 OPS. All of these numbers he has posted while learning a new (and more demanding) position in the field. Signed as an outfielder, he has played 184 innings at SS and 35 innings in CF. Norel Gonzalez 1B/OF - AA Corpus Christi - This guy will be 27 years old in a couple weeks. He is a Cuban who played 5 seasons in Cuba before he signed as a FA with the Astros in January 2021. In his 5 seasons in Cuba he posted a .853 OPS, .315 BA, struck out just 115 times in 889 ABs while walking 96 times. He had just 22 HRs in 889 ABs in Cuba. So far this year at Corpus he has a .984 OPS, .292 BA, has struck out 21 times in 89 ABs while walking 11 times. He has 7 home runs and 6 doubles in 89 ABs. He could be Yuli’s replacement after next season.

I am really impressed by the only 115 Ks in 889 ABs in Cuba. He is striking out about twice as often at AA, but his HRs have increased from 1 per 40.41 ABs in Cuba to 1 per 12.71 ABs at AA. One thing that does concern me is the .207 BA vs lefties at AA compared to .333 vs righties.

What is the competition level in Cuba? I read an article dated in 2012 in which the author said that the CNS is comparable to Low A baseball in the USA. How accurate that was/is I don’t know.

I am pulling for both of those guys. They have both been in milb for a while and have not given up on their quest to be a major league player.

Riley Ferrell off to a good start at AAA Sugarland. 9.1 IP in 8 appearances, 0 R, 3 H, 14 K. He has walked 6. I had high hopes for Ferrell a couple years ago. Then I think we lost him int Rule 5 five draft, and then got him back later. But if I am right, his rap sheet is: Good stuff, but bad command. Of course I'd rather find elite relievers from within. If not sign them as FA. Last resort is to trade for them. How would you rank the current pitchers in the minor to being future high-end relievers?

A&M just hired Schlossnagle to replace Childress, who they non-extended.

Pedro Leon went 1-3 with a home run last night. He walked once and did not strike out. In the month of June he has walked 10 times and struck out 6 times. He has 3 home runs in 29 ABs in June. He is batting.345 in June with a 1.284 OPS. If he keeps this up, I think he gets promoted to AAA by the end of July. Its not like there is a SS at AAA who is blocking him.

Norel Gonzalez went 1-4 with a double for Corpus last night. He is batting .421 in June with a 1.311 OPS. He has waked 7 times and struck out 7 times, and has 3 home runs in 38 ABs in June.

Under Luhnow the Astros had a philosophy of seeing how someone did in their first 100 at bats to determine how quickly to promote them. I have no idea how that may have changed with Click. However under Luhnow Leon and Gonzales would both be promoted some time this month. Gonzales first and if Leon does not fall apart he should be in AAA before July 1. Both should be September call ups, again unless they fall apart.

I am going to add another name to the list of our minor league hitters who could be a top hitter for the Astros in the future: Joe Perez 3B - High A Asheville - He was promoted to Asheville from Low A Fayetteville on May 25 this year. Since being promoted to High A he is batting .340 with a 1.077 OPS and has 4 HR in 50 ABs. He is batting.333 with a .833 OBP vs lefties and .295 with a .921 OPS vs righties. He went 3-5 with 2 doubles and a home run in today’s game.

Perez did not have the body needed to hold up to the stress that being a professional athlete requires. It appears as if his body has caught up this year. Hard to believe he is only barely able to drink adult beverages.

Olpapa, what's the story on catcher Michael Papiersk?....I know it is only 21 games, but he is raking in Sugarland. Before playing in AAA, if you look at his stats, you wonder how he got promoted. Papierski has come back to earth. Entering tonight’s game he was 2 for 17 in June. He is 0 for 2 so far tonight.

In 20 games in May he batted .354 with a 1.011 OPS. In 82 ABs he had 5 home runs and 31 RBI, he struck out 24 times....., but walked just 3 times. In 10 games in June he is batting .216 with a .554 OPS. In 37 ABs he has no home runs and 1 RBI, has struck out 16 times and walked just once.
