Mlb network thinks Astros are the best fit for Sterling Marte I think we are the best fit for Max Sherzer. I would love to get Scherzer. My question is WHAT would it take to get him? I don't want to include guys like Lee or Leon in a deal for a 37 year old starting pitcher when our main need is bullpen help. I would give the Nats Whitley, Paredes, and a couple of mid-level prospects for him.

So far this trade deadline has sucked.

So far this trade deadline has sucked. Everybody is waiting on some other team to make the first move. Once Scherzer and kimbrell go, the available pitchers get interesting as well as what they will cost. I think the Cubs, Pirates, Royals, Twins, and maybe the D-backs and Rockies could all have fire sales and back up the truck. I wish we could get Scherzer and Kimbrell, but, we don't have the pieces....maybe one of them.

Normally, I’d be all about Scherzer, but this team badly needs relievers. They keep trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with these inexperienced relievers and keep failing. Pruitt’s gopherball pitching highlights that. Starling Marte is cool and all, but is getting a CF a necessity or a luxury? I’d say it’s more the latter.

So we're writing off Pruitt after 2 innings?

So we're writing off Pruitt after 2 innings? I’m writing off that the bullpen is fine because injured players are coming back.

We need solid help for the bullpen. Getting Scherzer would be a luxury I doubt we can afford, and, we don't need a CF. I wrote Pruitt off before he pitched the first inning. A guy who has been out as long as he has takes awhile to be ready. Putting him in last night in that situation was asking for trouble and we got it.

Click has said in interviews that Crane told him not to worry about the luxury tax when it came to acquiring needed help. So, let's see how that works out. We won't get what we need if we wait until the last hour before the deadline.

We won't get what we need if we wait until the last hour before the deadline. Teams with top end players on the trade market are going to wait till the deadline, to make sure they get the best deal. I know it was a big Kimbrel advocate earlier this year, but I want to pass, because it might involve our best prospects. We just need veteran relievers that can throw a strike....

I think something big is about to go down... I get that same feeling. I dont think it'll be just one trade either. I think 3 possibly 4 trades. They may all not be super star players but there could be atleast 2 big names

We are not in a position to be trading our best prospects. I don't know if Baez will be ready before the deadline but that would be great if we could get a clue as to what he can do this season. Now, if we could get Kimbrell without giving up the best prospects, that would be great.

Why? He hasn't pitched in the MLB in a year. Just like Pruitt. Exactly my point. He said he doesn’t trust Pruitt because he hasn’t pitched in two years, then in the next post says he expects Baez to do well (even though he hasn’t pitched in a year or two). Total discombobulated hypocrite.

You may not have understood the reason I said there is a difference between Baez and Pruitt in this situation. Baez worked regular for the Dodgers in relief last season. Pruitt hasn't pitched at all since 2019 as a starter for the Rays and only worked 47 innings. Baez is used to pitching in relief......Pruitt is not. Baez is a proven quality reliever......Pruitt is not. Over seven seasons as a reliever, Baez has an ERA of 3.03 which is pretty good. In four seasons, Pruitt has an ERA of 4.89 which is not good at all. I wondered at the time why we signed Pruitt and I am still wondering why we signed him. The only former Ray that Click has brought here that has worked out at all is Stanek. Pruitt has a lot to prove..........Baez proved his before we signed him. We have reason to believe Baez can help the pen. We haven't seen anything to make us think the same about Pruitt.

I honestly don't understand why he hasn't already been designated for assignment. He has done nothing to earn a spot on the roster. I wouldn't have taken him back after he wimped out of playing last season.

With a little more than a week to go it seems like the action is slowly starting to heat up. The teams with the best players going up on the market are holding them tight. We really need to add an arm soon, not our major add but an upgrade to our pen. Kimbrel, Rodriguez, and Scherzer, are most likely not moving til late next week. We really need to add our lower leverage arm soon.
