“Carlos is a really smart guy,” Maldonado said. “People that talk to him, he’s really smart. He knew that after the lockout it was going to be hard to get those years that he wanted but one thing is the opt-out is something that he really, really wanted. I was with him last week. I know how he feels.” ----------- So that's pretty much it. Carlos wanted an opt out and Crane and co. ghosted him. Bleh. My inner conspiracy theorist is wondering if this is still Crane trying to break up the 2017 squad as much as possible. Would anyone be surprised to see Altuve and Bregman not extended again before they're free agents post-2024? Maybe Crane is dead-set on getting all those guys gone ASAP. I don’t see Altuve or Bregman getting contract extensions. I think there may be a shot with Álvarez, but I don’t see Tucker signing any contract past his control years. Crane seems to usually like riding out a player’s control years and dealing with arbitration, but when it’s free agency time, he doesn’t care to compete with other offers. Verlander seems to be the main exception, but he’s a future HoFer so that’s good PR.

Either deleted or she changed her status so her tweets are no longer visible by the general public. Here's the address: [twitter url="https://twitter.com/_StephanieClay/status/1505317041447788544"]

What'd it say? And who was it? Username was StephanieClay. Moderate number of followers (5,246) but I dunno if she has any actual cred. Basically threw down the race-card, saying Crane has shown a pattern of resigning white players but not minorities, except for Altuve. Maybe she got some harsh replies to that twaat and changed her status. idk?

Close paraphrase "why isn't anyone talking about how Crane has a habit of letting his non-white players walk?" I responded that McCullers, JV, Bregman, and Pressley were the white resignings/extensions, and Altuve, Gurriel, Brantley, and Maldonado were non-white resignings/extensions, and assured her that most white people don't care nearly as much as she's convinced we do about skin color. Apparently deleted her Tweet or hid it not long after the ratio started.

Story to the Red Sox, $140 million over six years, opt out after four years. It's Pena Time! It's unfortunate Bryant signed with the Rockies, but a 7 year deal was too long for him. Now I am for Tommy Pham, on a 1 year deal with a 2nd year option and a good reliever. Do the Astros extend Pressley now?

Prove it deal to Chris Archer?
Minor league deals to Trevor Rosenthal and Betances?

Why not take a shot at Austin Meadows?
Isn't he pretty versatile in the OF?

Why not take a shot at Austin Meadows? Isn't he pretty versatile in the OF? Because the Astros don't need to be trading away top prospects.

I have given some thought to the whole ghosting controversy. I am fairly certain this is a media creation. Not that Houston did not fail to return Boras' attempts to contact them at the end, just that they had already told them that the two opt outs were a non starter. I know it would of been for me and I am fairly sure it would be for any team that had options. I also think that Click needs to address the issue before it gets much more press so that this does not become a bigger PR issue.

Click’s issue is no one knows anything of significance he has done in terms of adding to the roster since joining the team. He traded for Graveman but then promptly let him go. He let go of Springer and Correa as well.

Also, Astros picked up Adam Morgan on a minor league deal. Definitely not an amazing move, or something that will smooth things over re: Correa, but a solid pickup.
