The new draft lottery and the rules about it essentially kills tanking almost entirely Tanking was a key part of the cyclical nature of mid and small market teams being able to contend. Without that, the Players Union has the misguided mindset that those teams will just spend more money. We're about to find out, the opposite will happen. During the next few years, the league will settle into a permanent situation of haves and have-nots. The haves will spend money. The have-nots won't bother to ever spend serious money. |
