And the union rejected the request... Steve Adams at MLBTR makes a good point in response to the union rejecting MLB’s request for mediation: “It’s a wholly unsurprising outcome, given the manner in which meetings between the two sides have played out thus far. Major League Baseball’s suggestion for a federal mediator was always eyebrow-raising, given their lack of any kind of new proposal. There’s nothing to mediate, after all, when one side declines to even bring an offer to the table. As Sheryl Ring points out (Twitter thread), mediation of this nature is generally a measure taken when both sides have submitted a good-faith proposal to resolve a dispute, and a third party then helps foster progress toward a resolution.” Again, Manfred does not intend to participate in good-faith negotiations with the players. He wants the players to agree to a process in which the union would negotiate with a federal mediator who would then present to Lord Manfred the items agreed to by the mediator and union for Lord Manfred’s blessing or rejection. The union was right to reject mediation. Manfred gets paid big bucks by the owners, not the union. On a side note, union is such a nasty, dirty name.

On a side note, union is such a nasty, dirty name. Dirty secret. My family actually fought for the Union Army during the civil war. Uncle Amos fought out of Pennsylvania.

Dirty secret. My family actually fought for the Union Army during the civil war. Uncle Amos fought out of Pennsylvania. I had them on both sides. My G-G-grandfather, James, was a union grunt. My G-G-uncle Reuben (his brother) fought for the confederacy. I often wondered what post-war get-togethers were like between them.

I hope the players realize this delay could possibly cost them in the long run. There are many other things I should spend my money on.

If MLB is not the first story on every sports channel next week then chances are games will be lost. Those boys need to start getting down to the nut cutting pretty quick or lots of money gets lost.
The guys I really feel sorry for are the guys on the 40 man roster that would not of made the club. They can not even go to the minor league camps to work out and work on stuff. Most of the players have nice bank accounts, guys that were on the 40 man last year had a little bit of opportunity to pocket some nice paychecks. The guys just added to the 40 man have been living on minor league pay and now can not even get that.

Unless I am doing my math wrong the players are losing over a million dollars per game cancelled in salary. The owners are losing slightly more than 300k in operating profit. seems to me that the players need to firm up as much as they can and call this one good.
