A LOT of hope. The union made some big concessions. I don't think the owners will do the $775k minimum salary but probably close to that over a three year period. 10% bumps each year would be something like $625k, $690k, $760k. I could see MLB offering a bit less then conceding to 10% per year. MLB just announced that they are willing to cancel some games while dealing with the CBA. I don't have a link here at work, but just saw it on FB.

The longer they F*** around, the less I care about them. 1994 is the last strike I will return from as a fan. I don't know what I'll do. I'll always love the game and, to a lesser extent, the team I root for, but baseball has left me kind of jaded. I followed the 'Stros religiously when I was younger, never missed an inning. I followed them when they sucked and was thrilled when they made the playoffs, then heartbroken when they lost. When they won it all in '17 I jumped up and ran around the house yelling. Then I found out they cheated. So for me, rooting for the Astros has been about dating an ugly duckling that turned into a swan only to discover the Swan was cheating on you. The older I get the less I care about professional sports. They're almost as corrupt as politicians.

Anybody that thinks the Astros were the only team that cheated is delusional. They were the ones that MLB wanted to punish. They couldn't have the Yankee's or Redsox embroiled in cheating as that would have really brought the house down that Ruth built.

After some discussions last Monday and Tuesday, pretty much silence the rest of the week. No word yet on when talks will resume. ☹️

Does anybody really give a rat’s ass if there is or is not a 2022 Major League Baseball season?

I agree with the player who said that MLB’s request for mediation was a publicity stunt.
I liked Kevin Goldstein’s tweet about MLB’s actions: “Kevin Goldstein @kevin_Goldstein · Feb 3 1. Lock the players out. 2. Don't initiate talks for six weeks. SIX WEEKS. 3. Say you are frustrated at the lack of progress.”
That pretty much sums up MLB’s contributions to the “negotiations” for a new CBA. Given MLB’s actions so far it’s amusing that Manfred is trying to create the appearance that the players are to blame for the lack of progress toward a new CBA. I ain’t buying.
Manfred is determined that he is going to control this process and dictate to the players, rather than lowering himself to actually negotiating with them.

And the union rejected the request... Steve Adams at MLBTR makes a good point in response to the union rejecting MLB’s request for mediation: “It’s a wholly unsurprising outcome, given the manner in which meetings between the two sides have played out thus far. Major League Baseball’s suggestion for a federal mediator was always eyebrow-raising, given their lack of any kind of new proposal. There’s nothing to mediate, after all, when one side declines to even bring an offer to the table. As Sheryl Ring points out (Twitter thread), mediation of this nature is generally a measure taken when both sides have submitted a good-faith proposal to resolve a dispute, and a third party then helps foster progress toward a resolution.” Again, Manfred does not intend to participate in good-faith negotiations with the players. He wants the players to agree to a process in which the union would negotiate with a federal mediator who would then present to Lord Manfred the items agreed to by the mediator and union for Lord Manfred’s blessing or rejection. The union was right to reject mediation.

The union was right to reject mediation. Glad to see you're not biased. lol If the request for mediation was a "publicity stunt" the rejection was a massive publicity blunder. If the Players Association was actually interested in "good faith" bargaining, instead of summarily rejecting mediation, they would have one-upped MLB and insisted on arbitration rather than mediation.

As far apart as both sides seem to be and the total lack of movement on either side, it certainly appears as if we have moved from questioning if we will lose some games to the strike to how many will be lost. I can not imagine a set of circumstances where both sides kill the goose.
