Glad to see you back. Like you I don't contribute often. My reticence is mostly due to the nature of internet message boards which I find are generally filled with the uninformed, misinformed and/or ill-mannered. It's much better to follow Vito Corleone's advice: never let them know what you're thinking. Still, I do enjoy the banter I read here at times.

Good to see you too TH There are a number of us who go back 20 years ago to the old MLB board who had a great time watching the up and downs of the team, fighting off trolls. Hell...we even had the late great Tom Petty in our midst. I figured it was really my loss not keeping in touch with these characters, just based on my anger at the team .

Hello everyone.... My vacation from baseaball has gone fine. Maybe a passing curioisty of the post season has peaked a mild amount of interest. OTOH, I still stand 100% with my basic observations two posts ago on this thread from 20 months ago. Jm Crane is c__k sucking SOB who deserves every inch of scorn his tarnished franchise now has thrown at it like layers of shit. Because now we have earned the lifetime meme of Cheaters, and that won't go away in at least my lifetime. Frankly, I am tired and embarrassed of it. I Wish I could send my $500 of '17 World Champion gear back to Crane in the same manner 18th Century setters gave blankets to the Indians.
Outside of Baseball, I think we all have seen and witnessed things in our country that were never experienced. COVID-19 has altered everyones life in a manner not seen in my lifetime. We've seen the political landscape take COVID and other SJW issues and turned this country into a downward spiralling socialist state. Thankfully I am in the last probably 15-20 years of my lifeime, so I won't have the live through the brunt of the damage,
Personally, our family has been lucky and avoided illness. Mostly precuationary though. I did know a few early on who succumbed to the illness, well before vaccines and before the medical community had a handle on the lethality of the disease. How the country, the people, and the world have not held the Chcoms accountable, is among the biggest mysteries of all. Sorry for the "Downer" tone, but.........
And last, I wanted to talk to the great folks over here. Thomas, Bear, etc. etc..... You guys make me laugh. My previous departing OPUS had nothing to do with the anybody here. Just the vein busting anger that the antics of Owner and Players hath bestowed on us fans. These guys were good enough to win it all without banging cans........ And in retrospect....... Did they think they could keep it secret in infinium? Quoting the Coach.... This was a massive exercise in "dumbassery" Thanks bud. I thought of you when Dusty Hill passed away

I thought of you when Dusty Hill passed awayReally hated to see that. Didn't hit me as hard as Peart's or Petty's passing, but we are sadly now in the era where a lot of our Rock heros are now dying of natural causes. Kind of wished Billy had retired the group like Rush had. But when you see Gibbon's interviews, I think the Top is an obsession much more than Rush was for Geddy and Alex. Saw ZZ Top in 1977 and 1981. In the first show Billy claimed that they were going to play all night. Well they did until midnight until when our backward redneck city turned the lights on in the arena. That was my favorite rocking-blues encounter besides seeing SRV at a bar in Austin in the mid '80's.

Another recent loss that I'd be amiss in not mentioning. I was terribly saddened by the loss of Norm MacDonald. Incredibly underrated talent. Maybe none were better in the "dead pan" category. Maybe the one funniest clip I could find was the compliation of his SNL OJ Weekend Update clips. Which BTW was why he was fired from SNL.

I am having quite of work done on repairs of my old family homestead that was damaged last year by Hurricane Lauara. Waited mostly a year thinking that the onslaught of claims and work needed would abate. Man, was I ever wrong.
Forget about even getting contractors out to take a look. The ones that do come out, are providing lead times of anywhere from 4-12 months. Problem though,it is not a bottleneck of national disasters, but one messed up supply chain system right now. Trying to make repairs of this nature are creating logistical nightmares. Many of these projects are layered where, in the past the contractor just went to his local Home Depot, and bought it off the shelf. Now, when any one domino won't fall it hinders the entire process.
Anyone else dealing with kind of stuff? Becasue I think the mere just lack of new cars on the lots is just the tip of the iceberg of something seriously much worse. We have Containers clogging our coasts offshore, without the means of unloading them. Seems our political apparatus would understand this crisis, and try to help debottleneck the issues. I know politics here now is a verbotten topic, but honestly folks the down side of it is inflitrating many asepcts of our life right now like a rot.
Fingers crossed Bortaz doesn't slap me with a lock.

There are also no car parts, 2-6 month wait times for maintenance at a stealership.
FYI: I usually only have to close threads that have Corch posts, because he's too dumb to understand that you're not allowed to call the VP a hooker, call for the genocide of all muslims, make racist comments like he makes at his klan rallies, spread misinformation about the extant plague, etc. All things that will get this forum shut down.

Pandemania....
Haven't seen too much discussion around the highly charged topic right now around vaccinations. I have had a tad of experience in this matter, as one of my first jobs out of college was with the State Dept of Health, and one of many of my duties was epidemiological reporting to the CDC on a monthly basis. It was mostly a bean counting exercise, but back then I spoke and knew some pretty damn sharp people around the topic of communicalbe diseases. Rather than go into a long drawn out narrative of my thoughts and observation, I thought it might be more readable if I just list them like bullet points.
1. Speaking of the CDC, it is obvious that this is not the same CDC I knew from the late '70's. In fact the CDC , WHO, NIH, etc. have been incredibly inept in their timing, action and causes on this disease. There have been so mnay lies and broken promises, that it is not surprising that the population is jaced and has a massive COVID-19 distrust of the government. The biggest culprit? Anthony Fauxci. I have heard and understand that there are some serious yet to be disclosed information about St. Tony, that are going to shock the country. I don't want to contribute to what so far is rumour, but stay tuned.
2. The disease..... I am 85-90% certain, that this is (was) a weaponized bio-weapon that was sloppily handled by the Chicoms. The infected bat that just happens to reside in the same city as China's biggest bio-research facilty defies plausibility. With that, it is an outrage that the world is not holding Red China accountible for this misdeed. Esepcailly since they strong armed the WHO into pretty much destroying or covering up any early evidence of the early transmissions.
3. The disease (part 2) - There are so many parallels of COVID with the 1918 Flu pandemic. Now that we are on our 5th wave, I am thankful that we have learned enough about it do treat the disease. Those poor folks who caught in the 1st half of 2020, really didn't have a chance. In each susbsequent wave, we are seeing the mortality rate (lethality) drop. That is outstanding new, and from my vantage point right now, COVID is now maybe only 2X-3X more dangerous than seasonal flu.
4. The Government- What a disaster. About 15 years ago, I was part of an industrial task force, where we developed contingency plans (as in my industry) to address infrastruture Pandemic planning. A lot of hard work was done, and I think we sealed the deal pretty well. Our TF among others, were provided to DHS, as part of what was supposedly was to be a National Plan in case H1N5 (Bird Flu) would reach pandemic status. That is why it was so disheartening to see this country so flatfooted when this happened. Both the Trump and Biden Adminstrations failed the country miserably on that account. Or...do we have such ineptitude that plans and programs are not being archived, and handed off when they need to be deployed.
5. Vaccinations- This topic now has this country going raving stark mad. Part of the problem was Fauci, Birx, claiming that after the vax was widely distributed that we would see COVID go away, and that those who received the shot would not get it, and were safe. What incompetentence. I don't think anyone knows why this is the case, by either because of the type of vax (relyong on bodily response, rather than inferred developed immunity), or underestimating how the viral variants would react. Finally the fact that we are seeing so many breakthrough cases, I think it is pretty iron clad (though we were lied to earlier) that the jab is more therapeutic than preventive.
6. Vaccinations (part 2) Vax or not Vax. I think we all have our own opinions on this matter, but this is how I see it. You as a person needs to determine your action based on your own personal health risk assessment. Simply, you have look, at your age, pre-disposed genetics, and pre-existing conditons to determine if this is right for you. My kids? Some have, some haven't but IMO, the risks outweighs the benefits. In my case, at my age, and 2 pre-existing condtions, you are darn right I have gotten the initial 2 shots, and now the booster. Becasue in my case, there is good tangible evidence that these vaccinations reduce the probablity of hospitalization and death. Again..... This needs to be a personal decision, and government and business should butt out

I think I'm developing MS (appointments made, but there's a backlog), and a rapid loss in visual acuity was one of the first signs about 2 months ago. I can barely see my phone/tablets, even with bifocals, and it's not much better on the computer (which is how I make my living, currently...)

I see your concern about the MS, but that may also be symptoms of other more easily treatable conditions/illnesses. Don't wait before it becomes more serious. OTOH, I am guilty too, and have let COVID cause me to postpone procedures like colonoscopies, cardio-scans, etc.

I'd rather be kicked in the nards than have to go get an MRI.
