The last time he was called up he got six innings. SIX. And struck out more than a batter per inning. And since then he's thrown almost FIFTY straight scoreless and...you want him gone? I don’t know. Maybe he has value in a trade. Isn’t there a logjam in the majors in the bullpen? The chances of us getting through the entire season without a single bullpen injury or downtime is not high. Not to mention Maton (who most people around here want assassinated) and Stanek's contracts are up after this season. And I've already mentioned how I doubt the likelihood of Stanek and Montero repeating their level of success from last season. None of it is to say he should be off-limits in trade talks, but I don't think they need to be trying to get rid of him either.

It didn’t help that he tried to assassinate himself after giving up a hit to his brother.

These are the non-roster invitees I am most excited to see in ST this year:
RHP Misael Tamarez
Scouts compared Misael Tamarez to Cristian Javier. The right-handed starting pitcher saw action in Triple-A to round out 2022, striking out 20 batters in 18 innings of work. If there’s one starting pitcher to make a run at a September call-up, Tamarez is the pitcher to watch out for.
OF/3B/2B Corey Julks
The Astros left Corey Julks unprotected from the Major League phase of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft. He went unselected, but the Houston product could make a run for the final 40-man roster opening with a strong spring training. While a second-time non-roster invitee, Julks will enter camp with third base and second base among his position additions with more power at the plate and more awareness on the base paths.
OF Justin Dirden
Justin Dirden was a lock to receive a non-roster invite this spring. The 25-year-old outfielder slashed .302/.384/.558 with 40 doubles and 24 home runs between Sugar Land and Corpus Christi this past season.
IF Will Wagner
Son of Billy, Will Wagner is coming off one of the best 2022 Arizona Fall League performances: 14 games, .346/.433/.712, six doubles, two triples and three home runs. Tourists development coach Mike Ramazzotti dubbed Wagner the “Athletic Max Muncy” for his ability to play multiple positions and flash power from the left side.

It just shows that you don't necessarily need a great farm system, as long as you're churning out a few good ones every couple of years.

From the guy who had been running the show for Houston in the international market. Guys like Jeremy Pena show that focus was starting to be embraced by the US talent evaluation group.

It shows you that the international signings saved their asses. I root for the Tigers because of HM. 1. Astros ... .... .... ..... ...... ....... 2. Blue Jays (team scares me but respect the talent) 3. Cardinals (respect from the days the Astros were in the NL and good baseball town) 4. Braves (same as #3) 5. Tampa Bay (got to respect a team that can be competitive without spending any money) 6. Cleveland (same as #5) ..... ...... 7. Tigers (because of HM) 8. Pirates - kickass stadium, Pittsburgh is a working town of good people (well at least for Northern state sakes)

They're also the two teams I don't want to face deep in the postseason

96-97 from the right side...and then switches to go left-on-left. Do want.

Did we give up too much for two months of Christian Vazquez? Already seeing Wilyer Abreu and Enmanuel Valdez hit dingers for the BoSox

Did we give up too much for two months of Christian Vazquez? Already seeing Wilyer Abreu and Enmanuel Valdez hit dingers for the BoSox It's not too likely that either becomes an impact piece. But it is dumb that they traded for a catcher just to have him catch once or twice a week. Might as well have just called up Lee. But we won the World Series so meh.
