Sugar Land Manager Mickey Storey will manage the AFL Surprise Saguaros team.

My wife, my daughter and I are taking a trip to Arizona in October. Gonna try and go to at least one of the Saguaros games while we are there.

I just looked at the numbers for Colton Gordon. He was drafted in the 8th round in 2021. He began this season in the Florida Complex Rookie League and pitched just 13 innings before getting promoted to Low Class A Fayetteville where he pitched 20.1 innings and allowed just 13 hits and 5 ER. He struck out 27 batters and walked just 3.
He was then promoted to High Class A Asheville where he pitched 20.1 innings and allowed just 13 hits and 6 ER. He struck out 29 and walked just 3.
Now he heads to the AFL. I hope to see him pitch while we are in Arizona.

The AFL game I have tickets to will be played at the ballpark in Surprise, Arizona. I will get to see some of the rule changes placed into effect for MLB next season:
“MLB also announced that after testing this season in the Minor Leagues, the following new playing rules will be implemented in the Arizona Fall League: pitch timer, restriction on defensive positioning, larger bases and the Automatic Ball-Strike System (“ABS”) Challenge. This Challenge System, which allows hitters, pitchers, and catchers to challenge an umpire's call at the plate with the ABS System, only will be tested at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick and Chase Field”

Will Wagner is off to a nice start; played in all three games and is 4-for-11 with 2 triples, 4 RBI, and 2 walks against just one strikeout.

Will Wagner…., Billy’s son…., is batting .455 in the AFL. He has 10 hits, 5 of which are doubles and 2 triples.

I attended the AFL game between Surprise and Mesa on Friday. Only 3 players on the two rosters combined had ever played above AA. I sat directly behind home plate and was surrounded by scouts. A scout in front of me had a radar gun clocking the pitches and I was able to see the radar. Most of the pitchers were hitting 88-91 mph with their fastballs. A couple hit 93-94.
Astros prospects Will Wagnee 3B, Scott Schreiber 1B and JC Correa 2B started on the infield for Surprise. Colton Gordon was the starting pitcher. None of those guys really impressed me. Gordon’s fastball topped out at 91. Mostly sat at 89-90.
One player who really impressed me was the A’s #10 prospect Denzel Clarke. The guy can absolutely fly. He hit a high fly ball to the warning track in left centerfield that was dropped by Jayce Easley (a Rangers prospect) and he circled the bases before the Surprise team got the ball to the catcher.

This is a significant loss. Oz has done incredible work and has been instrumental to our international department. Credit him a lot with the fact that roughly half our WS roster will be international guys.

Colton Gordon is starting tonight's AFL championship game, and the middle of the Saguaros' lineup will be Astros as well; Will Wagner hitting 3rd and playing 3B, and 1B Scott Schreiber cleaning up after him. Will be in MLB Network at 7 CST if anyone is interested.

Gordon had a scoreless first inning. Wagner got a ground ball base hit, should have been a FC probably but the shortstop derped. Schreiber had a nice AB and drew a walk after that.

Fun way to end the AFL: Schreiber walks off the championship game by driving in Wagner.
Schreiber was 2-for-4 with 2 walks, a stolen base, and that game-winning RBI. Wagner was 2-for-6 with an RBI and that winning run scored.
Colton Gordon's final line: 4.1 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 5 K.
Matt Ruppenthal also contributed 0.2 IP with 0 hits, walks, runs, and 1 strikeout.

In his first game in the Puerto Rican Winter League Pedro Leon went 3-5 with a double. He did not strike out or walk. He stole a base and got caught stealing once. He played CF and handled 4 chances without making an error.

Pedro Leon went 1-5 with a home run in his second game in Puerto Rican Winter League. He struck out twice. Played CF and did not commit an error.
