I still like Pressly. But we need to keep an eye on the future, and I don't see us keeping him past next year. Pressly did good enough. I wouldn’t be busted up if he left, especially if they could coax Hader into coming in here and helping Abreu in the late innings. I don't think we need to overpay a closer free agent. Besides, Hader is a marijuana suspension or two away from being out of the league, imo. |

So Verlander probably has one more start this regular season. That last start would complete his age 40 season. Most people marvel at how good Verlander still is at age 40, so I looked up Nolan as a comparison. This is why they may both be HoFers, but only one is a got darn Texas legend:
Verlander: 26 Starts 157 IP 128 ERA+ 139 K
That's a good season for any pitcher, especially at age 40. But look at Nolan:
Ryan: 34 Starts 211 IP 142 ERA+ 270 K
He led the league in WHIP, ERA, ERA+, K, Hits Allowed, FIP, K/9. But since the Astros were terrible and he only went 8-16, he only finished 5th in the CY voting.

In three of Baker's four seasons the Astros have had an actual record below their expected/Pythagorean record (which is based on run differential). The one season that is the outlier was dead-on with the x-W/L. This year they have 86 wins with 90 x-wins. If they actually had 90 wins, we would be two wins above the Rangers in first place. They are currently at 120 runs scored and 106 runs allowed this month, yet are somehow 9-14, almost entirely against terrible opponents, and now guaranteed a losing month.
It's a pattern at this point. Baker's teams find ways to lose games they should win.

It's a pattern at this point. Baker's teams find ways to lose games they should win. We have been fairly successful in Dusty's time here. Almost 3 World Series appearances and 1 World Series title. All that is great and beyond exceeds my expectations for a Dusty lead team. Ok that is the extent of positivity/kudos I'll give. What you outlined is all correct. Dusty manages and finds ways to lose games. He has just been extremely lucky to manage such a good team with players with tons of playoff experience. I also think Dusty's teams lack discipline and fundamentals, which has been so visible this season with all the fielding and baserunning mistakes. There is no accountability for poor play from Dusty and his coaches. The only accountability/discipline is if Dusty thinks you are chubby (re: see Chas). After this season, c'est la vie Dusty! |

Maton has decent stuff but no velocity so it’s BP. Montero either throws balls or BP. Neither guy is good at limiting the advancement of runners. |
