True, we’ll see what happens but this was a definite statement. The Astros aren’t going to waltz into the postseason like usual. That has been obvious for the entirety of this season. At least Stanek and Montero have been putting up zeroes. The starting pitching is doodoo butter.

Another arm taking a big step forward out of nowhere.

Easier for me to ask than look it up. What pitches does he throw? Velo?

Easier for me to ask than look it up. What pitches does he throw? Velo? He can hit 96 but sits 93-94 mostly. Plus slider. Curve and change are a work in progress. Likely a reliever if he can't develop a third pitch. Some injury concerns as well just due to his body and effort.

Jacob Melton finally promoted to AA. He apparently had some hamstring soreness and that's why it took this long.

Brice Matthews had his first three-hit game last night. He needed it; though he drew a lot of walks last month, he's been struggling to hit in his first look at pro pitching. He's hitting just .200 now but with a .373 OBP.
Trey Dombrowski had his fourth-straight good game, 5.0 IP and just 1 ER. He's struck out 27 batters in 19 innings during those games, against just five walks.

Well the Astros might be continuing to shoot themselves in the foot, but at least Melton is looking better the last few days in AA

Gilbert vs Melton, who is having a better minor league season?

Gilbert vs Melton, who is having a better minor league season? Gilbert is having the more consistent season despite some injuries and facing higher level competition for longer. Melton came on strong after a rough first couple of months, and he's hotter over the last few days. Gilbert overall though.

Bregman's replacement when he goes to NYY in '25? I'm guessing more like Dubon's replacement. But anything is possible. On that note, Wagner was 2-for-4 in his first AAA game and 4-for-5 with a steal tonight.

I know things are tough with the MLB club right now, but on the bright side, our AAA, A+, and A- minor league teams finished last in their division, and the AAA and A+ clubs had the worst records in their league, so...
Yeah, the whole franchise is toast.

Yeah, the whole franchise is toast. I don't think anybody really cares what records the minor league teams have. It's just about developing talent. We don't necessarily have a lot of talent down there right now, but that can be built back up over a couple years with some good drafts.

I don't know how much you guys followed it at the time, but Luhnow's farm teams when he was building this franchise crushed it. Some of them set records. It's not like Spring Training where tons of regulars don't play and only play partial games when they do and no one is really going all out. It's your best guys regularly and they're all giving 100%. Real baseball. Multiple farm teams finishing in last place is absolutely a bad indicator.

I don't see us making a lot of trades this offseason, so we'll get another draft in before the trade deadline next year. I think Dana will help bring some luster back to the farm system.

He traded away a good 20-30% of the luster it had at the deadline this year. This system is another two good drafts away from even being average.
