If we assume he started using steroids after the 99 season when he had some health issues and was reportedly jealous of the 1998 HR race, this is where he was already at for his career: 2010 Hits 445 HR 1455 Runs 1299 RBI 460 SB .288/.410/.559 .968 OPS (163 OPS+) 3x MVP 8x GG 7x SS He was already a HoFer. A 400/400 player with 2000 Hits and a .950+ OPS without steroids. |

He's had a disastrous May after a fantastic April, but his numbers on the year are still excellent. And his defense is actually on pace to be considerably better than the last couple years. He's also still leading the league in Hits (and reached 2100 total yesterday). He should also reach his 1100th Run in a couple weeks.

The offense has mostly continued to steadily decline this month, but surprisingly his defense is improving. As of right now he's actually worth a postive .1 dWAR. If he maintains that, he'd be on pace for about .3 or .4 for the year. That doesn't sound like much, but he's been at -1.2 and -1.0 the last two years. Hopefully the HR yesterday will be a sign that the offense will start trending back up. Despite the terrible May, he is on a 7-game hitting streak.

His offense has mostly been as good as usual, but what's interesting is that his defense, so far, seems to be back at a pretty good level. He's still currently at a .1 dWAR and he still has a 1.000 fielding percentage. He won't be winning a gold glove again, but it certainly should quiet some fears about his waning value at 2B.

It would be nice to see him get hot again and spark the recently-cold offense. He remarkably has a hit in every game but one for the month of July, but he only has two extra-base hits and only two walks... So while he has a .318 AVG in July, he only has a Jake Meyers-esque .730 OPS.
