In fact I didn’t.  I’m kinda-sorta semi-retired (which means I only work 35-40 hours a week).  In my off time I’m either gardening with my wife, fixing an old vehicle in my shop, or visiting my kids.  Don’t always make time to sit still for a baseball game.  BTW, I’m going to be a grandfather for the first time in September, so we’re excited about that.

As for the Astros I try not to let the emotion of the moment overtake me.  I take the season in 20-game or so bites.  Losing 4 vs. NYY was particularly nauseating, but we’ll see where they are in a couple of weeks.  They’re usually around .500 or so 25 games in.

Congratulations on the grandkid! My oldest grand is graduating HS this year and planning to move away to Jacksonville Florida to attend college (Best naval ROTC program there), and I am not ok with the thought of her being 1000 miles away from me for the first time in her life. But you have to let them fly, I hear.

Astros claim catcher/1B Cooper Hummel off waivers.
Hummel spent the majority of 2023 with Triple-A Tacoma in the Seattle Mariners organization, batting .262 with 27 doubles, six triples, eight homers, 47 RBI, 26 stolen bases, and a .844 OPS in 104 games. He also has MLB experience playing in 66 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2022 and 10 games for the Mariners in 2023.
Hummel was claimed to add depth at 1B and catcher. He is also a switch hitter.

Really good OBP in the minors, but looks like he's just minor league depth.

I hate to look ahead to May 13th but that could be a huge series vs The A’s. A chance to prove The Astros are much better than that franchise. I wonder if a new Golden astronaut holding a pick axe that’s for mining gold trophy will be introduced in the series. It can be called The battle of the cellar dwellers trophy! Trying to be an optimist here. Let’s turn this lemon of a squad into lemonade!

I agree. The beginning of the season schedule is about as brutal as it could be. Still concerning if we get swept in 4 vs The Yankees and then 3 to The Rangers in the first week of the season! At least this makes it clear we have tons of room for improvement before the trade deadline.

Actually, the A’s are pretty fired up right now apparently to stay out of the cellar. They are up on Detroit six nothing..The Astros will be looking up at the A’s from the cellar by the time the game starts at Texas tonight.
