So I think Jose Abreu's contract goes down as the worst in Astros history. I wasn't sure how it compared to what we gave Carlos Lee when you factor in defense, but it's definitely worse from a money standpoint: Lee: Average WAR per season 1.47 for $16.67 million a year. Abreu: Average WAR person season (so far) -.7 for $19.5 million a year. Before Lee broke his pinkie, he was light years beyond what Abreu’s offered thus far. I remember being pretty hard on Lee over his contract. Now I look back at his offensive production with us, and I wish we had it.

Trade Jose Abreu for Jackson Holliday. They are both struggling mightily but might do better with a change of scenery.

Oakland shutout The Yankees 2-0 today on the road. I’m starting to doubt The Astros can even compete with The A’s on that May 13th series I’ve already invested in going to. Booked flight, hotel and everything! Yes the tix were cheap but I chose this series because I thought it might mean something and we’d have a chance to sweep 🤔

A Swap of Bad Contracts?
Jose Abreu - $19.5M AAV for 1.5 more years
For
Andrew Benintendi - $16M AAV for 3.5 more years

A Swap of Bad Contracts? Jose Abreu - $19.5M AAV for 1.5 more years For Andrew Benintendi - $16M AAV for 3.5 more years George Springer, Carlos Correa, Garrett Cole, Charlie Morton and more. Losing all these guys one at a time to free agency didn’t really hurt us that bad. Now that we have lost them in conjunction years later, well we are where we should be. Losing with poor man versions of Correa (Pena), Springer (McCormick), Cole (Javier), Morton (Hunter whatever his other name is). Not sure what role Abreu filled but that guy is awful.

That is one stat you would never think about that would be documented, bat speed as you age. The analytic game has come up big in Baseball.

Didn’t you used to have some Benintendi crush? There should be a home run hitting contest between the two. First one to homer wins.

Benintendi is only 29 and his numbers indicate he should rebound and be an averageish player at least. Abreu is 37 (or older) and his numbers indicate he should be in a old folks home.

How much does South Chicago miss Jose Abreu? Now we know why they didn't seem to mind him leaving. He homered once in his last 50 games with that team. What kind of front office looks at that and his age and doesn’t see that as a red flag?

I like Benintendi a little bit but his barely warning track power is bad for his age.

Well if I remember right, they said his analytics were still pretty good. Exit velocity and such. It almost feels like there has to be something still wrong with him medically that he isn't saying.

It doesn’t matter unless the analytics come on the back of a baseball card. Plus it wouldn't fit. It only matters to the front office who is writing the check in the real world.

Son don't worry about the Stros, the current A's series is more of a problem for the Bronx Bumber's than Houston.
