it does kind of look like Larry, Moe, or Curly was playing catcher for the Athletics yesterday. go back and just watch the path of the ball, if he had of waited for it to hit the ground again it would of taken off and ran away from him. That ball takes a 90 degree turn once it hits the dirt. that kind of spin ain't natural. The throw to first, that was just bad, the tag attempt I understand.

Bregman is a gamer. There isn’t more you can ask for than constant and consistent effort. We need some more players to get Bregman's attitude. He reminds me of Biggio.

Verlander went from pissed at Stassi, to happy he was going to get a win, to pissed he lost his win, to amazed and amused that they managed to win.

I have watched this from all angles and still do not understand how the ball just magically slips out of his hand right before he tags him like that. It's as if the Gods intervened. Perhaps Angels in the Outfield from one angle I saw it kinda looked like Lucroy did apply the tag, and the tag is what knocked the ball free from his hand

It deflected off Bregman's batting helmet which probably caused the first baseman to lose track of the ball. Unless you think he should have known Bregman would veer back toward the outside of the baseline.

MLB Network announcers almost seem disappointed the Astros won. They expressed tremendous sympathy for Lucroy, who is having a "really tough day" and in their view, got screwed over by the rule that says the catcher must give the runner a lane to the plate. Without this rule, they reason, Lucroy would have tagged Reddick out and changed the complexion of the inning, blah blah blah. They also aren't sure what was being reviewed but they surmise it was basically to ask NYC what rules apply to such an odd play and are they overlooking anything. I think they were reviewing everything on the replay, including the dribbler being foul after the ump called it fair. That's probly why Bregman was underwhelmed in his post-game interview. Even he knew there was the possibility

Perhaps Angels in the Outfield I had a play like that back in high school. I grabbed the ball and it had so much spin on it that it just spun right out of my hand and when I went to grab it the momentum of making a grab for it pushed it further away from me. You reach out to grab the ball and when you pick it up if you do not have a strong grip on it it will flat out run away from you. In rec league softball, I hit a comebacker that rolled away from the pitcher and rested around home plate. Yes, I was a power hitter.

I'd said recently that Bregman wasn't a likeable player, regardless of ability...but I'm kinda warming up to him lately. I like a gamer. I think his teammates like him......the opposition not so much. Players voted him to be an All-Star so some must like him.

True, they are still learning to work together, but, I saw nothing to make me think Verlander was pissed at him. If he was going to be pissed at anybody it should have been at Hinch for putting that squatting piece of crap in the game to cost him a win.

I hope Verlander and other veterans are in Luhnow's ear telling him to dump Giles and go get Brad Hand and Iglesius.

Can you imagine what would have happened if a pitcher had sad “F’k you” to Billy Martin or Lou Pinella when one of those guys pulled them out of the game?

Can you imagine what would have happened if a pitcher had sad “F’k you” to Billy Martin or Lou Pinella when one of those guys pulled them out of the game? That would not have ended well for the pitcher. We could add Leo Durocher and Earl Weaver to that list, too. I hope that stunt finally convinces them to get rid of Giles.

You seemed convinced that comment was directed toward AJ. I do not. Other than just wanting a reason to bench Giles, why do you think his tirade was directed at anyone other than himself?

Are you actually defending Giles? He goes to the mound, gives up three straight hits without getting an out, and AJ pulled him as he should have. AJ's mistake was putting the squatting jackass in the game in the first place. Since Giles had just been pulled.....and rightfully so.....and stomped off the mound while the fans booed him off the field, WHO besides Hinch would "f*** you, man" been directed to. Of course, he directed it at Hinchl. Get rid of the S.O.B. for the good of the team.

I do not appreciate my children seeing that. That is not what I want them seeing. What a role model. Pathetic!

But from what I remember about Martin he said some inflammatory things about his employer and player. In the press no less

Billy Martin was also hired and fired 5 times by the same employer. Both had issues.
