I've been laughing about this exchange for like 5 minutes now. Saint tearfully hugs his framed Stassi 8 x 10 whenever Maldonado has a good game. Negative. I'd rather be wrong all the time if it meant the Astros win. Unfortunately, nothing in Maldonado's history says this is close to sustainable.

McCutchen with an ops of 765 and Smoak with an ops of 854 fill our line up out to perfection. Get them Luhnow, do not hesitate we have pieces that both teams would love and we would not miss.

Machete is making his case to not get DFAd On another note McCutchens time table for waivers is 1040 PM tonight Maybe alittle earlier depending l wonder why you or anyone else would think any thought was given to Maldonado being DFA.........he is one of the top defensive catchers in the game. He will be on the playoff roster.

Looking at the active roster, (and barring someone going on the DL) I can’t see Luhnow getting both of those guys. If he gets Cutch, Kemp goes to AAA I’m guessing. If he gets Smoak, who goes?

McCutchen has a wRC+ 113 this season. Kemp is 123. That swap doesn't make a whole lotta sense. Kemp is back anyway in September I guess anyway though

Yeah the more I think about it McCutchen starting over Kemp in September and October just isn't something I'm comfortable with. I'm going to have to take the next bus on this one guys

True. It wouldn’t make much sense to send down Kemp to make room for McCutchen. It would make more sense to send Valdez back down and go with a 12-man pitching staff until September 1st roster expansion. That is likely what Luhnow would do, if he traded for McCutchen.

Saint tearfully hugs his framed Stassi 8 x 10 whenever Maldonado has a good game. He says to the frame: It is just temporary. Best i recall, Saint said Maldonado would probably be left off the playoff roster. If McCann is healthy, I would not be surprised if three catchers were on the roster, but, if one is left off, it will be Stassi, Stassi's bat has died, and, as a catcher, Stassi isn't in the same league with Maldonado.

You don't leave your top defensive outfielder off the roster.....Kemp is adequate witjh the glove, but, not close to Jake and Jake was hitting well when he was injured.

I didn't catch the news on Cutch, isn't he a FA after the season. I will have to check COTS. Yeah he is, man do the Giants have a lot of bad contracts. I read somewhere earlier that Cutch won’t be in the Giants lineup tonight. Apparently either some team claimed him or he made it through the waiver process unclaimed and a trade is in the works. On MLB.com Andrew Baggarly of the Athletic, stated "a very good chance Cutch will be wearing another uniform by the end of the week." I just read your above post, out all day didn't watch any action, just catching up now.

i still like the idea of adding a right-handed bat for the OF and McCutchen would not cost much.

The Astros' main weakness this year has been hitting RHP. Unfortunately Cutch is only hitting in the .240s this year vs RHP, and over his entire career he's been more dominant against LHP.
Still, I would support this acquisition. He's not quite Beltran, but he's a veteran presence who has compiled an incredibly solid body of work over the past 10 seasons. It's probably best to let a number of guys play in September (Cutch, Jake, Kemp etc etc) and then fill out the postseason roster based on who's healthy and standing and has a hot bat. If Cutch gets left off the postseason roster due to injury or choking at the plate all throughout September, so be it.

I don’t know his splits, but McCutchen would seem to be a good platoon bat with Marwin. 2018: Cutch .742 OPS vs RHP / .807 vs LHP Marwin .757 vs RHP / .663 vs LHP Career: Cutch: .831 vs RHP / .931 vs LHP Marwin: .746 vs RHP / .711 vs LHP So the general idea would be to use Marwin vs RHP and Cutch vs LHP. I could see Cutch as having a stabilizing and reassuring influence on the team as a whole. Also he'd have a lot of hitting tips to share with the young guys like Kemp and Fisher and White.....

You never know when a guy like Cutch might teach Fisher something about his swing that just makes everything click for him.
The boy could hit 40 HRs/year easy if he could just start putting the ball in play and in an elevated fashion. He has near-Stantonesque power.

I’ve kind of warmed up to a McCutchen trade. He may not be the MVP he once was, but he could be decent.
Also, that park in San Francisco is death to righthanded hitters.

McCutchen would welcome coming to Houston for a chance at a ring, even if he platooned with Marwin at times.
Malodnado will be on the playoff roster as his defense and catching ability is much needed in close games.
Stassi is not playoff bound however if McCann is back.
Kemp is one of the more exciting Astros players this season and keeps the energy in the clubhouse light. He's like Conger but with ability.

That's what I'm saying
You get McCutchen he plays LF Kemp gets the spot starts Marwin is the 5
No room for Jake
Stassi might not get the nod if McCann comes back so the sooner the better on that so they can move Stassi for something.
But if you look at it Harvey wouldnt be a bad add either

Harvey was claimed by some team. I wonder if it is the A’s. They have quite a menagerie for a starting rotation already. May as well add him.
