Just trade for Cutch...gives you a solid veteran in a position of need....Giants shouldn't be asking for too much....

I'm not so sure OF is a position of need anymore. Marwin has a wRC+ of 164 since the break, and Kemp can fill-in for Springer in CF if he scuffles

Perhaps I should attempt to reframe this discussion to better illustrate what I see as a hole in our line up and a potential weakness. When we go to the World Series we will have 14 hitters on our 25 man roster. Currently we have only 13 guys for whom anyone can make a reasonable argument for keeping on a World Series roster. They are: Altuve Bregman White Correa Kemp Gattis Springer Gonzales Gurriel Reddick Maldonado Stassi Marisnick Now of those 13 guys there are some that have run hot and cold this year, Springer, Gattis, Gonzales, Kemp, and Correa. So let's just say it is the bottom of the ninth behing by a run and two outs who do you send up there Mr No Name #14 or perhaps Mr Room temperature Gattis, or if there is a runner on first and one out Mr Gurriel. Perhaps we should send Mr Reddick up there, after all he is famous for hitting (not) in the post season. What if someone gets hurt. My point that seems to keep getting misrepresented as a binary choice between Gurriel and Smoak is that it would be nice to have choices that give us a chance. It really does not make sense not to when the cost is minor league depth. Really why not two. Why not two. Smoak postseason stats: 11 games, only 10 ABs and ZERO hits. .000 avg, .000 OB%, .000 Slug, .000 OPS, 4 Ks
Small sample size but why was he never starting a game in 2015 and 2016 in the playoffs, and in 10 ABs over 11 games at least get on base once. This to me shows he was put into the game in late situation primarily as a PH and couldn't get the job done.
so who do you bring on as the 14th bat

so who do you bring on as the 14th bat Tucker is gonna get called up in September and hit 40 HRs with 120 RBIs in 25 games to take that last spot. I can feel it!

I'd take White over either right now. But I agree that we don't need another 1B unless it was a mindblowing one. You would take White over a healthy Jeff Bagwell. False. Bagwell is a top-5 all-time 1B.

Should've got Votto when we had the chance When did we have a good chance of getting Votto? Hasn't he vetoed trades because he wants to stay with the Reds? i was joking

Instead of Cutch an OK bat who's unfamiliar with AL pitchers. I can just see the complaining about wasted at-bats and why did we trade for him

Seriously one thing I notice about every bat that gets traded here mid-season is they try to do too much, cause they feel this pressure to do so. And it winds up costing us Sorry, but that's what this trade-possibility feels like to me

The thing about Beltrán so awesome last year is eventually the pitchers started going to him for advice about release point and delivery, instead of Strom. Beltrán would've made a great bench coach this season

Whether we wind up renting a PH for a prospect, or taking at-bats away from Springer down the stretch, I think both scenarios are unrealistic I do like the possibility of signing Cutch to a FA deal in the offseason though. Our OF depth problems are more treacherous after the season's over

Recent reports luhnow has claimed alot of players but teams are pulling them back.
Also 50 / 50 chance for an add they seem happy with what they have.

luhnow says no deals this year. That was not what he said last night......he is still watching to see who is on waivers that could fall to us. that was my understanding of what he said. What he said exactly was that he did not see a need right now and that he did not see any player that would be an upgrade over what we already have. He went on to say that he would keep an eye out to see if someone that could help became available. Well it's the 29th, we already know who is going to become available and if he does not see it already what could easily be understood was no deals this year. Now if someone gets hurt I am sure that will change.

well I just read something else that says that implies that maybe the prices are not right. So maybe we do make a deal if the prices drop. Hell who knows, he likes to keep things close to the chest.
