I would think Kemp, Alcala, and Celestino to KC should do the trick. If that wouldn’t do it, they could keep him.

60 million in contract commitments will do that to a fellow.

Would anyone be interested if Josh Donaldson was put on waivers.... No, because not only would you claim Donaldson in that situation but also his calf muscles, which put him on the shelf once a week.

If the price is right, trade worked out, I would be interested...he is a FA after the end of the year.

Indications are that the Pirates are likely to be sellers at the deadline. Luhnow and Huntington made a trade in the offseason that has worked out well for both teams so far. I wonder if they might get together again and work out a trade for Felipe Vazquez (Rivero). He had a rough month of May, but has turned it around since. In his last 12 appearances he has not allowed a run in 12.2 innings pitched. Hasn’t been scored on in a month. He is 10/10 in save opportunities in June and July. I realize that’s not 12/12, but it isn’t bad.

I guess it's just cooler to criticize?

Based on what they got for Herrera, I don't think KC would demand top prospects for Merrifield.

y'all wanting stros4me back I barely remember him, but I do recall him being "moran". He was a teacher at a school in the Dallas area. He said that he taught kids with learning disabilities (I always wondered if they had the learning disabilities before he taught them). Bortaz.., this will jog your memory as to who stros4me was. Do you remember when Thomas was trying to reach 15K posts on the WS Game 7 GDT? Stros4me was the guy who...several times, if I recall correctly.., contributed 100 posts to the thread by posting the numbers 100 - 1 in descending order.., one number per post.

Offense needs bolstering. A’s took them to school. You’ve got to admire Beane. He does more with less than any GM.

I know it’s out of his control, but it’s a knock on him nonetheless. It’s sad that his playoff teams choked, for lack of a better term.

Astros still looking at Britton. Looks like he is improving. If we could get anything remotely near the 2016 Britton, I would be all for it. From MLBTR last night:
“Zach Britton’s most recent outing was an encouraging one for scouts, writes Jon Heyman of Fancred in his latest notes column. One scout tells Heyman that the Orioles’ closer was finally beginning to look like himself in a recent save against the Yankees. Heyman notes that Britton was throwing 96-98 mph, although data from both Fangraphs and Brooks Baseball isn’t quite as bullish as that scout’s radar gun was. Certainly, though, Britton’s past few outings have been encouraging. In five scoreless frames, he’s averaged a slightly improved 95 mph on his heater and posted a strong 66.7 percent grounder rate with four strikeouts against one walk. Britton has thrown a first-pitch strike to just 41 percent of the hitters he’s faced in that time, and his ground-ball rate, velocity and swinging-strike rate are all still shy of his peak levels. Nonetheless, he’s certainly trending in the right direction — a welcome sight for the Orioles. Heyman notes that the Astros are believed to once again have interest in Britton after the Orioles backed out of a trade involving him last season, which would’ve sent Colin Moran and a Double-A outfielder to Baltimore.”
I would take 95 mph fastball, 66.7% ground ball rate and one walk vs 4 strikeouts with no runs scored every 5 innings.

With the Astros’ insistence on implementing extreme pull shifts, would that work to the advantage or detriment of Britton with hitters making a concerted effort to serving pitches to the opposite field?
We have seen a lot of rallies develop from these sorts of “bad luck” hits.
