Actually the O's should have interest in Giles at this stage, I would think. Gives them a young controllable closer during a rebuild to replace Britton. Obviously they should try and get another player or two, but it's a reasonable swap for both teams.

Sorry.... O's GM isn't named Wade. You’ve gotta admit though, if Luhnow could pull it off, it would be a great way to send Giles on his way. He could get the Assistant GM in Charge of Videos to cut out a closeup of Giles’ from the video as he says to AJ, “Fk you man.” Then he could let AJ meet with Giles and play the video while the two of them watch and ask Giles, “Remember this?”...then say.., “No...., Fk you man”.., hand Giles the envelope containing the letter informing him that he has been traded to the Orioles and walk out of the room. LOL.. OTOH... The mental midget that Giles is, should be pretty easy pickings for Luhnow Jedi Mind Tricks. He might not need to go to that level of complication.

Giles will just keep up his tirades and antics.
You know what needs to happen to him with the help of his team mates?.......

I just hope we can use Giles as a throw-in on a deal to get rid of him. If we deal with the Orioles, I hope we try to get both Britton and Adam Jones.

Doesn't have to be anybody special though. Just to add to the quantity and hope to maybe get lucky.

I was just looking over the Orioles roster at mlb.com and their payroll info at Cots. Much has been said about the terrible contracts that the Angels and Tigers have with Pujols and Miggy. You don’t hear as much about this one that Baltimore is stuck with:
“Chris Davis 1b 7 years/$161M (2016-22)
7 years/$161M (2016-22) re-signed by Baltimore as a free agent 1/21/16 16-22: salaries of $23M annually, with $17M paid as earned and $6M deferred without interest the $42M in deferred money is to be paid in 10 installments of $3.5M annually each July 1, 2023-32, and five installments of $1.4M each July 1, 2033-37”
The guy is batting .158..,his OPS is .506 and he is striking out in 39% of his ABs. The Orioles are going to be paying this guy until 2037. Good grief.

Hopefully expiring contracted players do not cost top prospects...more so in blocked players that are on the fringe on being Rule 5 protected or not... Machado didn't cost as much as I would have expected. Makes me feel a little better about Britton being cheaper this year if we still go after him. I thought the Orioles landed a decent haul. The Dodgers tried hard to keep that Díaz kid and failed. He’s supposed to be a stud.

Even better ....have him in the same suit with a rope around his waist, and let Luhnow play as an Organ Grinder

I was looking at Trayce Thompson's stats. I know Springer went through a horrible slump but this guy has only 15 hits in 128 ABs for a .117 BA and .162 OB%.
Over the past two season he's 21 for 177 .119 BA in 78 games. That is brutal

His defense is so bad though. You'd want him over Gattis, I assume?

His defense is so bad though. You'd want him over Gattis, I assume? Yes.....Everyone likes Gattis, but he is extremely streaky....I would not be against adding Martinez bat to the lineup....and make him primary DH, but he can play some 1b as well....he is more of DH than a 1b, so the Cards might be open to trading him....I think he is controllable through 2022....and he is already 29 (late bloomer)...so adding his defensive liability and age, he might not be that expensive, in terms of prospects.

The only way we get rid of Gattis is if we have a guy that can rake in his place or have club control over for the next few years with equal value to Gattis now and a larger upside.

So that could be Jose Martinez? Nope. We could get that same production from White or Davis at no additional cost without losing prospects. Plus, when Tucker starts raking, we'll need a place for Kemp.
It's getting harder to find players who would actually improve this roster over the long haul. Of those commonly mentioned, only Realmuto at C and Iglasias in relief seem to be improvements to our roster. Not because others aren't good, but because what we have is good.We need more than good to improve our roster.
