Astros don’t absolutely have to have Britton. Bid it up with the Yankees to the point they have to overpay and weaken their farm system then let them have him. I wonder if there’s something more to this tendinitis injury that Chapman has.

I guess I am greedy with prospects. I would not trade j.b. either.

Wouldn’t be surprised if all these Britton rumors being floated aren’t just a diversion tactic while Luhnow works on a trade for Iglesias.

People talking about trading for Britton and Jones need to realize those are two rentals in which you’d be giving up a bunch of prospects.

Drive up the price on Britton then send a lesser package to the Reds

I would think New York would have a hard time sending "great" prospects to a team in their own division.

Jerry Crasnick ✔ @jcrasnick
The latest on Zach Britton: It's looking like a four-team scramble among the #Astros, #RedSox, #Yankees and #Cubs. Hearing that Houston and New York both sweetened their offers in the last day or two.
Roch Kubatko ✔ @masnroch Latest I'm hearing on #orioles Britton talks is that #astros & #yankees in the lead, #redsox close behind. They seem to be the top 3 at this hour. And yes, it's been changing. #cubs were up there as recently as Sunday. I still have Alabama No. 1, but it might be a different poll
Jerry Crasnick ✔ @jcrasnick
A lot of rival execs think the #Astros make the most sense as a Zach Britton destination. He might be their one missing piece. They have the prospect depth. And if the offers are close, the #Orioles will probably be more inclined to pick the non-AL East team on general principle.

Speaking of intradivision trades and more affordable alternatives to Britton, if this were all a video game, I could see Jose Leclerc coming to the Astros for a package including some of the blocked guys and maybe Giles.
The Dodgers are said to be bidding for Leclerc. He makes sense in many ways, but the problem is the damage those former Astros/Grizzlies would do to our team over the next 5 years.

Ken Rosenthal ✔ @ken_Rosenthal
#Yankees have emerged as clear front-runner for #Orioles’ Britton, sources tell The Athletic. NYY scratched RHP Dillon Tate from his start tonight at Double A. As always, no deal is complete until all medicals are approved by both clubs.

The Astros have the luxury of winng the ring last year and knowing their team is still good enough to repeat as is. No point mortgaging our future for one guy who may not stay.

Tate was #12 on the prospect report before the season. Yanks are definitely over reaching

Tate was #12 on the prospect report before the season. Yanks are definitely over reaching Mlb.com has Tate ranked as #9 NYY prospect. Houston’s #9 is Corbin Martin. No way would I trade Corbin Martin for a rental.

By the way, I know it's early but Beer in 11 games has 4 HRs and .293 avg at Tri City.
Nice start

I am disappointed that we missed out of Britton. I knew it would come to a head tonight just thought it would be us. We still have time to get someone else though as we did not let it go to the last minute this year.

Adam Jones hasn't been good since Tyler Clippard was last good Plus rental. Rental acquisitions should be guys who can make a difference. I'm not even sure Britton would've done that for us since it's pretty much a given you'd be using him in high-leverage situations. It's probly even odds he would've progressed, plateaued or plungedThat being said Britton makes sense for NYY bullpen cause it's so elite right now. Teams can do worse than Britton as your 7th inning guy

It’s time for the Astros to now get their lefty: JOEY VOTTO.
