I think we're dreaming to believe we have a shot at Goldschmidt.

I think we're dreaming to believe we have a shot at Goldschmidt. If he weren't from Houston and grew up idolizing Biggio and Bagwell, I might agree with you. I think we have a shot.

Goldschmidt will be a FA after next year so he will be looking for a big contract in his age 32 season. Id do a 3 or 4 year deal but nothing longer than that. Up to this point in his career the most he’s made in a year is 11 million this season. Not a bad price for such a great bat.

I blame Pettitte and Clemens for making Astros fans think that hometown discounts are realistic.

I can’t invision a way we could fit Goldschmidt into the team moneywise, but if there is anyone who can figure a way to make it happen, it’s Luhnow.

He is the closest thing to Jeff Bagwell in the current game. He’s got power, patience, can hit .300, and can steal a base if necessary. I believe he’s also a good defender at 1B. I just think people should be realistic about him the way they are about Keuchel. They re going to want to get paid big time. I don’t think that being from the Houston area means much to them. Houston doesn’t have the glitz and glamor appeal or the mystique that Los Angeles, New York, or Boston has that draws athletes. It’s why you see time and again how players like to join the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, etc. Hopefully, in our lifetime, Houston will join that list, but hometown discounts are a type of fantasy that people believe in a little too much. Do you think Luhnow would do another megadeal when Correa and Springer’s futures are still up in the air?

Bregman needs to stop with the horribly slow starts. I’d also swap him and Correa on defense. Both guys are out of position even if they’ve done admirably well on defense.

I won't predict that we get him, but, I would not be surprised. Probably depends on if we are still winning.....and we should be....and how much he wants to come back to Houston and try to be part of a championship. Putting him at first base and having Yuli as DH would give us an awesome lineup, especially if we keep Springer and have Kyle Tucker starting by then.

It will be interesting to see where Goldschmidt and Machado end up next year.

Goldschmidt is a possibility. We don’t have a clear cut first base option in the minors. I just imagine Goldschmidt hasn’t hit it big on the money front so he will command 25 million a year for 4 or 5 years.

If we approached him beforehand, and he said he would not consider talking deal until his contract was up. And Springer was going to ask for a 6-7 year deal for $210-$240M... And if Goldschmidt could be had on a 4 year deal for 110M+, I would not be against it....Especially if at least two of Tucker, Alvarez, Straw or Fergurson look like they could be good starters by then....

The worst thing about fan posts dreaming about signing a favorite player is that there is always at least one wanker who has to play the "OMGZ the Arstos caint sine no big starz, cuz they broke/small/unpopular/cheep!!!!!1" card to shit on the fantasy of the other posters.

When Tillman Fertita bought the Rockets, I read that he spent 71% of his net worth to buy the team. I don't remember reading anything about Jim Crane and how much of his net worth he spent...
