Looks like Luhnow is screwing the pooch like he did last year at this time. He's brought in two good (potentially great) relievers that are controllable beyond this year for only minimal loss of prospects so far. I don't think he's screwing the pooch from a player standpoint. If he is high on White and Kemp continuing to be effective MLB players, he is probably thinking he has the offense he needs once Altuve and Correa get back. Hopefully... he brought in no bat...........he failed and screwed the pooch

Once again Luhnow sat on his ass and hoarded prospects and we get no damn bat. He is going to get his ass roasted Yup, He's willing to not win this year by overreacting to hopefully keep this team in contention for the next 5 years.
I don't blame the guy. We have a ballclub that won the world series already and have almost everyone returning. The injuries haven't scared him into making a move so he must believe standing pat was the play.

My guess is he got by with it last year, so he did it again. He blew it. He let other teams get guys who could have helped us. If Correa can't come back healthy, we are screwed and Luhnow did it.

He has no history in the postseason, why do you think he would fold? Same reason I knew Quintana would not be the same pitcher he had been before and regress. White doesn't possess the mentality to be that great of a hitter.
You look at players reactions when they complete an AB (frustration, hopeful, excitement, determination). These traits tell more about a players attitude as they approach an AB then simply just how they swing because they will tell how a player handles stressful situation. I don't see it in him. He has shown to be better than JD Davis, Fisher and Reed of course but will never been on par with even Reddick for our ball club.
Quintana is what he's always been. A #3-4 starter that eats a lot of innings. And regress to what? He's always been a mid-high 3.00 ERA kind of pitcher. He has shown a little decline since coming to the NL, but has still been a winning pitcher that eats innings and is a little better than league average in ERA+. He was never Cy Young.

He may be blowing a chance to repeat by "hoping" he can win now and in the future. You go for it when you can.......you don't know what will happen in the future. He screwed up

I didn't see any of the bats we were interested in (including us on the board) get traded to other teams. Jose Abreu Whit Merrifield Jose Martinez Justin Bour JT Realmuto Matt Adams Bryce Harper Adam Jones Starling Marte Did we want Schoop or Dozier? All we missed out on was Ramos, but we had already picked up that great catcher Maldonado that you're so in favor of. No significant LFers or 1B got traded, and only one catcher in Ramos (who is currently hurt). He improved the bullpen, potentially significantly, and didn't give up anybody that we had high hopes for.

That's actually False. People were putting Quintana in the elite pitcher status before last year (When the Astros were initially trying to get him). The price tag was way too high for him as well.
Fiers is an innings eater with around a 4 ERA. If Quintana is hovering his stats around Fiers ability then he has regressed.

He got the relievers......and is catching hell from members of his own team for getting the one with the most talent. Pressley and Osuna could strengthen the pen. Not trying to improve the offense makes no sense. He has two catchers who can't hit, and Bregman is the only regular who is hitting as well or better than last season. He needed to get a bat.

I don't know who was saying that, but they were wrong. And Fiers is actually having a very good season. In fact, Quintana has only ever had one season ERA+-wise better than Fiers is having this year.

He is going to catch hell for not getting the bat and bringing in Osuna. Now, if Osuna works out, all will be forgiven. If our injured players don't come back and produce, there will be no repeat title.

You can only get players that teams want to give up, and you can only get good players by giving up a lot (normally). Either the guys that could help us weren't available or they were more than we were willing to give up. It's not the end of the world.
Within a couple weeks we should likely have our offensive stars back, and the bullpen should get into a better rotation (hopefully). Obviously losing Correa from the middle of the order has had a domino effect. If we continue to get production from Kemp and White, and Tucker starts to hit, we'll be pretty good shape offensively. The catchers hitting would just be a bonus, imo.

I didn't mean he is in danger of being fired. But, he is going to get a lot of negative feedback over Osuna and not getting a bat. I have no problem with the Osuna trade. In fact, I support it. He deserves whatever negative remarks he gets over not getting a bat. If he had not gotten Verlander at the last minute in August, we would have no championship and sitting on his ass and only getting Liriano and Clippard would have screwed the team.

We're all assuming there was something to get. We have no idea who was realistically available or not. There weren't many big bats that would have helped us, traded at all. Maybe Moustakas and maybe Ramos (if healthy). That's really it. That says something. Even Dozier and Schoop are kind of....meh guys. Machado was the big offensive name traded and we don't have a spot for him if Correa comes back in a week or two.
