62-33 .653 winning percentage (on pace for 105 wins) 3 games up over Seattle for division lead (9 games over Oakland) 3.5 games behind Boston for the overall lead (tied with NYC for 2nd) 1st in run differential at +182 Team OPS+: 117 Team ERA+: 131
Top-5 WAR Players:
1. Altuve 4.6 2. Bregman 4.5 3. Verlander 4.1 4. Cole 2.9 5. Correa 2.8
It would be nice to see some power tonight. I think Altuve could benefit from a day off since he'll be playing at the AS game. He looks a little drained. Some mental mistakes recently and obviously trying to do too much.
Hopefully Morton has a good strong game to force his way into maybe a replacement all-star spot.
Let's split the series!

Only one thing worse for the Astros than facing a pitcher making his ML debut....that’s facing a good pitcher coming off the DL.

Yesterday was the Astros' fourth-worst defeat of the season (in terms of the deficit in runs at the end of the game). Oakland was responsible for another of those big losses, the 8-1 game on April 27.

I am glad the lineup you wanted didn't come to be. Because maximizing the offense while giving Altuve a rest day is a bad idea? Bad idea to rest Altuve with the break coming up even though he is in the All Star game...the bad idea was resting Yuli on monday when he had just had three days off PUtting White in the lineup doesn't maximize the offense......it weakens it.

Altuve would still hit, and as dumb as you think he is, don't you think he could use some mental time off? And players have to get days off. Yuli is not used to these long MLB seasons and he's in his 30's. If you want people rested for the playoffs, you have to give them some time off. And White is right this moment an above-average offensive player with the 4th best OBP on the team. The combo of him-Yuli-Breg is better offensively than Marwin-Yuli-Breg.

With so few plate appearances, White's stats will fluctuate wildly from game to game, and they won't really start to stabilize until he gets close to 100 PAs. I think he's mid-30s now.
However, one set of stats that is starting to give clues about how he has changed since last year is his plate discipline data. Basically, he is a lot more selective than he used to be, only swinging at 20% of pitches outside the strike zone (down from 30% last year). That's the lowest rate on the team; very Bregman-like. Marwin and Altuve swing at more than 35% of pitches out of the zone.
White is swinging at 66% of pitching inside the strike zone, which is about middle of the pack on the Astros.
When he swinging at pitches in the zone, White makes contact 79% of the time -- highest of any current Astro.
White's SwStr% (Swinging Strike rate) is 6.2%, third-lowest on the team behind Bregman and Kemp.
Overall, White is showing good discipline and bat-to-ball skills. We haven't seen him hit as many line drives as he normally produces, but that will come as he gets more opportunities.
His approach is one that is going to generate a lot of walks, a lot of good hitter's counts, and will wear down opposing pitchers. That will help compensate for players like Yuli who let pitchers off the hook, throwing only two or three pitches per AB.
White's plate discipline stats in comparison with Marisnick's are like night and day.

Rest doesn't help improve decision making.......White is nowhere close to being an above average offensive player......He has produced exactly ONE run, the homer he hit last night. He was 5 for 28 with ONE extra base hit before his home run. Nbody on the team has done LESS for the offense than White. Unless OBP also means driving in or scoring runs, it is of little importance. White has driven in and scored ONE run.

Smith and Rondon were both great pick-ups. The bullpen this year is much better than it was last year, with McHugh there and now with Giles in AAA.
I want to see more from Cionel Perez. I expect him to contribute more than Martes did last year.

White had 45 RBIs over 228 ABs for Fresno this year; that is about what Davis and Tucker have produced for Fresno if you look at it in terms of RBIs per game.
Reed is really the RBI king for Fresno this year at 72, but that has a lot to do with where he hits in the lineup.
White had 13 HRs at AAA this year before yesterday's big league HR... he hits one out of the park about once every 23 or 24 PAs, and I suspect he will continue that pace this season if he gets enough playing time.

"Nbody on the team has done LESS for the offense than White." He's played in just a handful of games this year. You have to give him a chance. His OPS+ is at 103 now and his runs created is at 109. 100 is average for both of those numbers. You don't have to like White and you don't have to think he has a long-term future in baseball, but, right now, he is a modest above-average offensive player.

it was very uncharacteristic of Bregs to chase that ball out of the zone and forego the BB.
Altuve will chase that strikeout pitch nearly 35% of the time, unfortunately.
