I was advised today that our forum is in violation of the hate speech rules laid down by Proboards. Whether we were reported by a member, reported by a guest, or just found in an audit, I do not know.
The discussion about Islam was pointed out as an example of inappropriate posting. I was instructed by the company to remove offending posts from the board. Rather than spend hours reading through all those posts, I just edited out any text that was addressing Islam or Muslims. I do not like editing your posts, but it was necessary in this case, in order for us to keep our community.
It is now necessary for me to inform you all of the following non-debatable rules, in force beginning immediately:
You are prohibited from posting anything which:
1. Is obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy or pornographic, that may constitute child pornography, or that may solicit personal information from or exploit in a sexual or violent manner anyone under the age of 18;
2. Depicts excessive violence, contains comments or images that are offensive, abusive, threatening, harassing or menacing, or that incites, encourages or threatens physical harm against another;
3. Promotes or glorifies racial intolerance, uses hate and/or racist terms, or signifies hate towards any person or group of people;
4. Advocates the violent overthrow of the government of the United States or other conduct that could constitute a fraud or other criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national, or foreign law or regulation
Any posts in violation of these guidelines will be deleted when found or reported, and a warning will be sent to the poster. If poster receives three (3) warnings, they will be removed from the Refugees community.
I don’t want this forum to become a full time job, so I ask that you all assist me with making sure we remain in compliance with Proboards rules, and with the law. Report inappropriate posts. Help me police our members. Don’t post offending remarks.

I am more guilty than anyone else so this is probably my fault. I have a difficult time keeping my opinion of Islam to myself. Best thing is to probably not discuss things like this here.

You're only "guilty" of loving your country, Coach. No shame in that. The patriots will win at the end of the day, we just got (a lot) more work to do. The guilty parties here are the sell-out government leaders who precipitated the cultural crisis we were discussing, and their lackeys in the media (both print and online) who are working to destroy the USA. They know their days are numbered, that is why they are lashing out with futile attempts at censorship. |

Yep, no one is safe from the PC police. And okay I'll play sh__ house lawyer, and try to help us work out where the line is in this process: Item 1 - Obscene/lewd/lascivious- (a) Curse words? Verbotten standard George Carlin's list? (b) Scantily clad women like in Sandbox? Where is that line crossed? Item 2- contains comments or images that are offensive, abusive, threatening, harassing or menacing (a) abusive? How do you pan players without zingers? Are the Gen Giles poems a violation? (b) Tiffs between posters..... It is a real fine line between a simple insult and what might be construed as harassing. That will be tough to interpret/ enforce. (c) The term "offensive" is so subjective. We really need some guidance on that one, or this site will be mayhem. Iten 3- Intolerance- (a) On surface, might look easy, but I'll give the example of where it is way out of whack. the confederate battle flag in my eyes is a symbol my ancestors particpation in the WBTS, but you have a huge contingent who view it in other racist terms. And that is bull sh__. Item 4- Government overthrow/ fraud- Coach gets pretty radical, but I seriously doubt he's planning a coup.  Just trying to get some footing going before it hits the fan. |

My response: Use common sense, if you want to keep this forum. I think we're all mature enough to know what not to promote socially. The internet is full of free porn, if you're in the market. I'm sure you can determine whether scantily clad = porn. You can cuss, within reason...I try not to cuss as much, because I don't want to offend Sempersmom or QBGJ. |

You aren't interested in the guidelines, and your moderating style has much more to do with your personal whims/agenda than with the guidelines. Ben Franklin spent much of his life outside the USA too. Sometimes if you want to effect positive change, it's more feasible to do it from the outside. Franklin certainly got that, but I suppose that would be difficult for you to grasp with all that fecal matter between your ears. |

Note to all: As everyone's feelings are a bit hurt today, I won't respond to any of the personal attacks, etc. that are being thrown around. This is a good community that we've worked hard to maintain, and I hope we keep all 51 members we currently have (and add more). However...I told all of you from the beginning that I didn't have any interest in moderating/managing this forum. If someone else wants it, I can have the password (and all the responsibility) in your inbox quicker than Giles can blow a 4 run lead in the bottom of the 9th. Just let me know. |
