If he keeps his head he should be just around the corner. I hope so. I wasn't excited about the draft because we did not have an early pick. But when we picked him I got very excited. Not sure how he fell to us but damn I am glad. Since we know our draft position, do we have an idea of who (within a group of say....5-10) of who we might net this year? Considering our two best pitching prospects may be getting the call this year, got to think Luhnow has got to be thinking arms this year.

I keep waiting on someone to post it. I read over at the crawfish boxes that Whitley, Tucker, Alvarez, James, and Martin all got into the top 100. I think that Whitley was 5, Tucker 14, Alvarez 34, James 77, and Martin 78. Not sure of the accuracy of the actual numbers but that is close. The Astros have 5 prospects in the Baseball Prospectus top 100 as well. Here is the BP take: #7 Whitley #14 Tucker # 46 James # 49 Alvarez # 80 Bukauskus

JB's ranking of course has been tempered by stats. I feel his stuff has a lot more upside than that. I won't be surprised to see a Whitley/JB Astros 2020's tandem that will similar to what the Braves had in the early '90's.

Then we have James and Valdez who could be starters or good bullpen arms. Brandon Bielak is another guy who could make the majors in 2020. I think he could be a decent arm for us. Ryan Hartman is my sleeper pick. MLB.com releases their Top 100 on Saturday.

How did the Brewers pass him up anyway. Hell you would have to draft him just for the name. Yeah. BREWERS draft BEER does have a certain ring to it. Man did they miss a golden opportunity

I think that they will focus on the best player available from a positional sort of P, SS, and C. In other words if there is a run on pitchers early then they may default to the best ss or c depending on the relative ranks that they place upon them.

His analytics on pitching seem to be so good that he might have the luxury on waiting on taking a pticher...

That's just the first one that pulled up when I searched. I always believe in drafting the Bpa, not for need.

In MLB without a doubt because the player might not make the majors for about 3 to 5 years, so the mlb current team needs can change drastically by then.

This from MLB.com. J.B. Bukauskus’ slider is rated the best among Top MLB prospects:
“Best slider: J.B. Bukauskas, RHP, Astros (65) - ETA: 2020
Many scouts considered Bukauskas' fastball and slider the best 1-2 combo of pitches in the 2017 Draft. Though he can hit 98 mph with his heater, his slider is even better, arriving in the mid-80s with late, sharp bite. Despite battling a back injury, he fanned 71 in 59 innings last season.”
Another mysterious back injury?

Also as we all know the setbacks last year, they thought he could have made the move up at the end of last season.

But most likely because of how contracts are, be brought up during the season.

I just looked at AAA Round Rock’s roster and saw Bryan Abreu listed as one of their pitchers. The FO must really think that kid is something very special. He pitched 16 innings at Short Season A Tri-City last season and 38.1 innings at Full Season A Quad Cities. He was placed on the 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft and now he apparently will bypass A Advanced as well as AA and start this season at AAA. Pretty impressive.

Now that we finally have our AAA team back in viewing range again, any Fugees live close enough to give us the ongoing "Low-down"?

If Marisnick is not out of options, then why not have him in the minors and Straw in the majors?

Reddick sees them approach in his rearview mirror. Marisnick is sweating. If Marisnick is not out of options, then why not have him in the minors and Straw in the majors? He literally has a job because he can homer against lefties and above average range in the outfield. Straw has a chance to take his spot outright, and he’s a burner on the bases. Marisnick is average at stolen bases.

Time for Straw...Corch should be able to promote Marisnick to other teams, so the Astros can trade him.

I'm sure Jake knows it's his last chance to shape up. And management's told Miles what they said to Tyler .. keep hitting and you'll be back up here
