Umpiring crew has been announced. Joe West - chief of the crew I've seen Joe West called games where a dartboard would have been more accurate. With 6 in the post season umpire crew, hopefully we will see him no more than once.

I read today that Hinch has called several of the pitchers considered non-locks for the bullpen into a 'simulated game' at MMP so that he and Strom can measure their best stuff for horizontal/vertical movement, spin rate, velocity, etc. it also helps the Astros hitters get some live BP.
This could help him make those tough choices as to who among Sipp, James, Rondon, Smith, and a couple others crack the ALCS roster.
I won't be surprised if the two weeks' rest has helped Rondon get back to his mid-season performance. A healthy Rondon plus Pressly and Osuna is pretty intimidating.

I'd be fine with Rondon over Harris. I think it would have been Smith if we had played NYC.

I was thinking they'd add Rondon to help ease tensions. What tensions? Rondon made an ass of himself by not showing up for the player introductions and Hinch should not reward him. I know that's how they do things in Reklaw, but Hinch is a Californian and will try not to perpetuate hard feelings amongst his staff.

Houston was honored to be named one of the top 40 “Genius” companies in America. A “Genius” company was one defined as a company that transforms and industry in a positive way. It is interesting that three of the final four teams this year have a Houston flavor to their play. The Brewers GM is a Luhnow understudy. The Red Sox manager is a Hinch understudy. Both have taken deep drinks of analytics.
Hearing Bregman talk about knowing how the other team likes to work allows people to game plan around it very effectively. It reminded me of what Gibson said he was thinking before hitting his famous home run, “this guy likes to throw a 3-2 back door slider”. What did he hit for his home run on a 3-2 count, a back door slider.

The only Reklaw I know of is a small community between Sacul and Jacksonville in East Texas. Been through there many, many t imes.

While obviously it doesn't apply to all situations, keeping Rondon happy is important, in my opinion. We have him another year and we want him to be happy and effective. Obviously we can't put someone on the team that can't produce just to keep them happy, but it's not like Rondon wasn't very effective for 90% of the season. With some rest and a fresh outlook I see no reason why he wouldn't be an equal to or better than option than Harris for this series (or better than Gattis as only a pinch hitter).
Besides, I think that thing with Rondon wasn't that big of a deal. (And if a competitive professional athlete WASN'T a little upset about being left off a roster, I'd be more concerned...)

I'd still give Rondon the benefit of the doubt that he assumed his name wouldn't be called since he wasn't on the ALDS roster. On that basis he might have thought it was no problem for him to hang back in the clubhouse.
It's not like he went on a twitter rampage about it or something.

James out, Rondon in, according to Facebook.

Not a fan of that. I like James as a potential long relief guy after Keuchel or Morton start...

James out, Rondon in, according to Facebook. Since AJ didn't use James at all against Cleveland, we should not be surprised. He had a couple of excellent chances to use James but wasted an inning on Harris instead. I will be glad when Harris is off this team permanently. James would be a better option than Harris or Rondon.

Don’t like not having James. Rondon is more of a risk with his issues lately.

I'm fine with Rondon making the ALCS roster, but I would have kept James and left off Harris.

I'm fine with Rondon making the ALCS roster, but I would have kept James and left off Harris. as would I have...Despite his numbers, I really don't trust Harris....the same way I have always been Sipp...And having both Harris and Sipp on the playoff roster is not comforting....they are not as good as their numbers advertise....

I don't understand why AJ thinks he needs Harris.......James can come in and dominate for a couple of innings. I don't believe Harris will be used in a critical point in the game. I have no problem with adding Rondon, but, why keep Harris instead of james........makes no sense.

Interesting. That's more like what I thought the ALDS roster would be. I'm guessing Hinch wanted more bullpen options for matchups and is predicting (rightfully) a more offensive showing from Boston.

Straw is about our only blazing fast high percentage base stealer.
Sure hope we don't need a critical Pinch Runner need during the series.

I see where Hinch will announce the ALCS roster on Friday. Here is what I think we will see: Cole Verlander Keuchel Morton McCullers McHugh Smith Pressley Osuna Sipp James McCann Maldanado Gattis Gurriel Altuve Correa Bregman Springer Reddick Gonzalez White Marisnick Kemp Straw Rondón instead of Straw .. wouldn't be surprised if this gets debated depending how the series turns out

I rather have Straw....

Correction to my last post...Those where his regular season stats....Gattis did hit the Red Sox well in the 2017 ALDS...he went 4 for 10 with a walk...so by that account, having Gattis makes more sense than what I thought initially.

Glad to see James made it to the ALCS.
I'd probably have swapped out Gattis for Straw too, but maybe Hinch is thinking like this in terms of DH --
1) Price confounded White earlier this year so maybe Gattis starts at DH in Game 2.
2) White has owned Eovaldi and also does well against lefties so he probably starts vs Sale too.
3) Kemp probably DH's against Pomeranz based on L/R matchup.
