you DO NOT allow the 9th place hitter to swing 3-0 leading off the 7th inning when he represents the tying run. That was the DUMBEST at bat I have seen from Kemp..JUST PLAIN STUPID. |

If you are going to bring in Osuna in the 8th inning, you might as well had done it in the 6th with a tie game.
I am so pissed right now about Smith that they deserve to lose this game

Astros took pretty good ABs in the first three innings. They didn't score much but they made Eovaldi grind and threatened to force Cora to bring in the bullpen from perhaps the start of the 5th inning. Since the 4th though, it's like the Astros hitters (most of them anyway) have just decided to make the game as hard on themselves as it can possibly be. Way too many one-pitch and two-pitch outs.
If Barnes comes in with pine tar on his elbow, I wouldn't mind Hinch asking for an inspection.

The only reason I could see why Hinch would put Smith in for the 6th is that he hasn't made a competitive pitch in a rather long time. He 'needed to get some work in'.
However, that's not a very good reason in my opinion.

The rather obvious strategy against a team like this is to wear down opposing pitchers through long, grinding ABs... not swinging on the first pitch, fouling balls off, not swinging at ball 4... and yet the Astros only executed that strategy for the first three innings. After that, it has been like everybody wanted to tie up the game with one swing, and it's gotten them nothing (as it usually does). |
