I don’t know if I’m liking these deals without Luhnow d coding to pony up on some extensions. It's interesting to me no one's considered the possibility Cole will have a down year. That'd likely cool the talk about wanting to extend himExpecting Cole to be as good in 19 as he was in 18 would be almost as misguided as expecting Reddick to have as good a year in 18 as he had in 17. Not saying Cole will blow chunks but he is not going to be in the top 5 in the Cy Young voting after 19.

Has Cole won a Cy Young in the past? I can't remember.

Fact is that we don't know exactly what we get from anyone. Injuries like we had last year and down years are all possibilities. In 2017, we had a few guys who had career years. We had a great year from Peacock who moved into the rotation. Morton had his best two years ever while we had him. It looks like Luhnow is more concerned with adding offense than pitching, although I'm sre we add at least one starting pitcher.
For all we know, Reddick could hit around .280 with 20 hone runs......not likely, but, a possibility. Cole could win he Cy Young. It is impossible to know what some guys will do. Tucker could show up and win Rookie of the Year.If he does, I want him to win it in an Astros uniform.

I hope Verlander finishes in the top five for the CYA again. That’ll give us one more guaranteed season of his greatness.

I gotta say I'm surprised Brantley came here on a 2yr/$32M after Encarnación rejected a 3yr/$66M offer from us. I guess winning the World Series is the best hometown discount

Players have a range of expectations, some guys break out and some guys fall by the wayside. Those are the outliers and my guess is that what Cole did last year will become thought of as one of his best years not one of his average years. So no way would I sign him this off season to an extention, he would expect Verlander type money if he had any sense at all.

Any talk of balking at Kyle Tucker in a deal for Realmuto is foolish. Realmuto is an all-star, first division catcher: above-average in every category. They are one of the rarest things to find in baseball. @_JeremyBooth
That's the Third news caster Sports personality that has said the same exact thing

I mean I like that since the Gurriel and Reddick acquisitions, Luhnow's FA offers aren't so long-term. The fact that we landed one is icing and likely to do with the WS year we had after Encarnación chose Cleveland over us

Of course they'll really be groaning if we can't find a replacement as good as him. Should be able to find a guy who consistently gets us three runs behind in the first inning for less than $20 million a year. If guys that win more than they lose while throwing 200 innings with better than average ERAs were cheap and easy to find, everybody would have them.

For those of us that don't use Instatwat, what did the Bregman thing say? He said, "BIG NEWS COMING SOON." Which could mean anything. I highly doubt Luhnow calls Bregman and lets him know all the signings and trades he is working on.

I don't think there is any rush when there is still time for trades to be made (and Boras will be waiting for the teams that missed out on the other FAs to overpay), but I hope they didn't burn that bridge just in case.

I wanted to ask if the Astros add Cruz and Realmuto. And some how add someone like Clay Bucholtz?
Do you think Verlander and Cole both say to them selves hey I wanna win and win and win. If I stay for less then market value like Verlander for 15 to 20 or Cole same as the Corbin deal. Would that be fair or do you think they run. For the money

He deserves credit for that
