I wonder if Yuli would like the chance to go play with his brother? I've said this 1000 times over. Maybe for Smoak or a prospect or two. Cavan Biggio Poo on Smoak. I am talking about a package getting us Stroman.

That would be my direction I would push hard for Castellanos and Fulmer. Try and wheedle them down to goo value even include White un the deal to facilitate it. NICK at DH would be great for this team and spot starting in the COF spots. Then I would all in on J.T. and Ureas with out Corbin Whitley and Tucker Nick is a definite possibility. The Tigers are highly motivated to move him this year. It's the final year of team control and he'll be making over $11 million this year. It will take a solid prospect or two from the middle of your deck. Nothing more. After the trade deadline this summer, his value in trade will be zilch. Position players/hitters are more difficult to deal at the deadline than pitchers. Almost everyone is looking for pitching at the deadline.
Thoughts of getting Michael right now are pretty much just dreaming. The Tigers have four years of team control. His projected arb as a super-2 is just $3 million. Unless the offer for him is HUGE, I just don't see the Tigers having any motivation to deal him at this point in time.

What do you think would get Castellanos?
Bryan Abreu and Jairo Solis Acquire him?
If he likes it here he probably stays.for a fair price.

What the Tigers would be willing to take really depends on how many suitors they have for Nick. The players you mentioned don't seem unreasonable but Abreu brings a bit of a problem with him. He's currently on the Astro ML roster (to protect him from a rule-5 grab). Complications like that take something away from a player's value when they aren't quite ML ready. I don't think Al Avila would jump quickly on an offer like that but the closer we get to ST, the more likely it will be he'll take what he can get.
As far as staying for a reasonable price, money talks. A player will take a nickel less to sign with a contender but you won't find many who will forego lots of money to do it. He doesn't have Boras as an agent so that's a plus. Really, you should be looking at him strictly as a rental. Then take it as it goes after the end of the season with no preconceived expectations.

You should post more. Getting a perspective from someone not invested in our guys would be a great thing to add to the conversations.

Would you trade away 6 years of Tucker + other top ten prospects (with same amount of team control) for 3 years of Kluber?

It would take too much to get Kluber and I think he folds up in the playoffs like a cheap suit. The more I think about the tandem starter idea the better I like it. We keep the advanced pitching prospects that we have and invest our money in getting the offense to be the very best it can be. Our team would then resemble the 17 team and last year's champion as well. That is proving to be a winning formula.

You should post more. Getting a perspective from someone not invested in our guys would be a great thing to add to the conversations. Be careful what you wish for. I have some unpopular opinions about a great many things. For instance, I think looking at a pitcher's history in the postseason is a tricky business. It's a small sample size and pitchers are notorious for having a wide range from success over time. For instance, Verlander looked pretty bad in the postseason of 2006 and 2011. And after being tough as nails in the ALDS and ALCS he got his ass handed to him on a platter in the WS of 2012. I also have some unorthodox opinions about strikeouts.

It is all good, one of the problems in America today is that way too many people listen to echo chambers that only feed them back what they already believe. I like to think about all perspectives so having someone who believes that Kluber would not fold up like a cheap suit in the playoffs would be an interesting discussion. I understand for instance how small sample sizes are not statistically valid and would be very hesitant in forming an opinion on a player based upon a small sample. If you look at Tucker's performance last year and formed an opinion based upon his batting average or ops based upon that small a sample then your opinion may be right but given the other indicators in his performance, you most likely would be wrong.

I am torn, because I don't think the Astros have any OF in their farm with Tucker's ceiling, especially any in the near future. However, having an Ace like Kluber for 3 years at the tune of $52M total causes me to say maybe. The trio of Verlander-Kluber-Cole is unbelievable and should make the Astros favorites for 2019 regular season and WS. For 2020, with the Verlander and Cole being FAs, having Kluber allows the team to still have an ace and mentor. Playoffs are small samples, see how Kluber fared against the top hitting teams in the regular season. I am pretty sure that the Indians, given their need in the OF, would ask for Tucker and probably some top pitching talent not named Whitley...It is a lot to give up but I almost think it makes sense for 2019 and the next two years, especially considering that is the same window of Astros team control of all its core players together: Correa, Springer, Correa and Bregman....in the 3 years this team will have some tough decisions to make, but for now, they have a 3 year window and Kluber would help them maximize their chances.

Will they have any starting pitching in one year? That to me answers the question. As it stands now, Whitley could be the #1 in 2020. While he may have that talent, I think that is too early to ask that of him. Plus, I would rather have an Ace that he could mentor off. Now, I think the Astros will at least re-sign Verlander or Cole, but you never know...Verlander could want to go pitch elsewhere (Dodgers) to finish his career and Cole could be offered a huge contract that the Astros can not come close to matching; therefore, obtaining Kluber now guarantees that Astros have an Ace in 2020 and a mentor for Whitley.

Wow. Okay, agree to disagree. not the first time we have disagreed. Lots of pitchers are great during the regular season and do nothing in the post season. So far, Kluber fits into that category. But he HAS done stuff in the postseason. In the 2016 World Series he went 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA in 3 starts. If they had won, he very likely would have been the WS MVP. He's been considerably better in WS appearances than Verlander has if we're going to be fair.

I don't think we need anymore offense, especially if we still have an offer for Realmuto. I hope we start hearing some news on some starting pitching.

I think we all forget at times we made the playoffs in a down year offensively from Altuve, Correa, Springer and Reddick. Just imagine if all 4 marginally improve on last year's performance.

The offense last year lacked the consistency of the year before, which we all realized. If the Stros were consist last April and May most likely would have topped the Bo Sox win total. Hopefully the guys will have comeback years this season.

I expect improvement from Gurriel, Correa, Reddick, and Springer. Altuve too if he stays healthy. Bregman will likely regress slightly because I think he over-performed a bit. Add in the addition of Brantley and Chirinos and our offense is already better from last year.

Just told you apparently the Astros didnt wanna spend over ten million I assume that was meant for me, I usually don't scroll back on earlier posts, but that makes sense. Just on MLB NOW they mentioned with the Stros missing on Cruz a good target would be "Parrot Man".
