And I honestly think Nelson Cruz will be an Astro. And surprise Carlos Beltran will be a bench coach if Carlos Beltan can be signed as the Astros bench coach, they should jump on it and get it done. He would make a great bench coach

And I honestly think Nelson Cruz will be an Astro. And surprise Carlos Beltran will be a bench coach Marisnick is one of the top defensive outfielders in the game and is the best on our roster. It will be a mistake if he isn't on the roster. Marisnick is only projected to cost us 2.9 million. He will be on the final roster unless traded.

Why are we caring about Marisnick or Straw? I don't think backup OFers are a concern....

So answer this. I keep seeing these payroll numbers put out. But sporttrac has the 2019 payroll at 77.6m with like 20 players accounted on the payroll. I get there will be pay increases. But I dont see 62.4 m in increases.

I go off sporttrac they are pretty much on top of situations.
I'm not calling anyone out although alot call me out telling me I'm wrong.
But anyways. The Astros can move the payroll up significantly if they choose. I think we can get Cruz at 10m per fyi

Shelby Miller could be a low-risk, above average return player.

Let's ask the questions.
DH. Nelson Cruz or trade for Nick Castellanos?
1B leave Yuli or White. Trade for Goldshmidt or Bour in FA once he is released
The big one Sign Yasmani Grandal or Wilson Ramos or trade for Salvador Perez or J.T Realmuto
That's the big three So the question is how much money or trade assets. And Why??
I'm curious

This 2019 payroll info comes from Roster Resource (which is owned by MLBTR): Guaranteed Salaries Verlander $28,000,000 Reddick $13,000,000 Springer $12,000,000 Gurriel $10,000,000 Altuve $9,500,000 Smith $8,000,000 Rondon $4,500,000 Owed to former players $500,000 Owed to Astros from other teams -$8,000,000 Total Guaranteed Salaries = $77.5 million Estimated Salaries of Arbitration Eligible Players: Cole $13,100,000 McHugh $5,400,000 Harris $3,600,000 Pressly $3,100,000 Peacock $2,900,000 Osuna $6,500,000 Marisnick $2,400,000 Hermann $1,500,000 Correa $5,100,000 McCullers $4,600,000 Devenski $1,400,000 Total of Estimated Salaries for Arbitration Eligible Players= $49.6 million Players not yet eligible for arbitration: Bregman Stassi Kemp White Roster Resource estimates $7,700,000 in salaries for players with non-guaranteed contracts

BTW, does anyone have a realistic estimate of what our max payroll is? I think the luxury tax kicks in at $206 million next year. As things stand right now, Roster Resource estimates the Astros 2019 payroll to be $134,870,000. Of course that is only for the players we have now...no allowance for any FA we might sign or for any player(s) we might trade or non-tender.

To be frank I would choose Miles Straw of Jake for the main three reasons.
1. Straw is amazingly fast and his def is pretty good aswell not jakesk but good enough.
2. About 2.5m less in cost. That money could be used in other places.
3. Straw is ready. And if you have Springer, Reddick, Tucker, Kemp. You gotta think it's a youth movement. Straw

In other news The deadline for teams to protect eligible minor leaguers from the Rule 5 Draft is a week from today. Some players the Astros face decisions on: C Garrett Stubbs, RHPs Trent Thornton, Rogelio Armenteros & Riley Ferrell.

Astros roster stands at 34. Next Tuesday is the deadline for adding Rule 5 eligible players to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from the draft in December. I think Armenteros, Stubbs and Thornton are likely to be added. Not sure about Riley Ferrell.
