Solid cheap depth signing with minimal risk. Good move. I'd still like to see a guy like Buccholz or a multi-year #2-3 type for depth past this season though. I feel like at least one more move is on the horizon. Kluber and Lugo!

Considering McHugh only pitched 63 innings in 2017 and 72 innings last year, i think it would be a stretch for him to reach 150 innings this year. I've pencilled him in for 100 innings. Peacock only threw 65 innings last year so it would be quite a jump for him to get up to 125 this year. While he might in fact reach that mark, I would rather only count on him for ~70 innings. The way that Devo just fell off a cliff in July last year (and still looked bad in September, after taking August off) has to raise the prospect that the team might not be able to rely on him for much of anything this season. the study that I have referenced a few times about pitch limitations from one year to the next dealt with guys 28 and younger. After 28 there was no direct correlation between innings and increased work load. It had to do more with body conditioning and the nature of the individual athlete. For instance someone with a violent delivery would not be able to go 200 innings no matter how you worked them up to it. McHugh and Peacock have both proven that they can handle the pitch counts and innings to do what I listed even with the relatively light work loads of the past two years

I think signing Miley eliminates Keuchel resigning. I don't think so.

I think signing Miley eliminates Keuchel resigning. I don't think so. Miley will not be able to carry Dallas' innings. The way the Brewers used him at the end of the season, copying the use of the opener. He is a nice insurance policy.

I think this is the beginning of the dominos falling Wade Miley is the beginning of the dominos? For the Astros. They kinda know what direction they can go. They dont need Keuchal. Marwin should be not needed either so it would be more like what can they get? They shouldn't need a RP simce most likely Framber is in the Pen. Look for a bat

Miley is just another Astro headed to free agency next season. Luhnow needs to lock up some players.

Lugo, Diekman, Will Smith, Watson, Stammen... any one of those guys would bridge the gap nicely.
The Astros may not have 3 aces this year, but they will have more pitching depth than about any other MLB team.

Everyone says no way Kluber is moving.
I think if they get Marwin back two players will be moved. Kemp or Marisnick if not both and Diaz down

World Series pick from here for 2019: The Astros bounce back and win their second title in three years, defeating the Atlanta Braves in October.
This was from Buster Olney
He also still thinks the Astros will add atleast 2 more players. He is on the Realmuto train aswell And Castellonos
I doubt we would get both but I'm still holding on to hope we grab Realmuto. But would settle for Castellanos

Olney's picking us despite a relatively weak hot stove season?
Will be interesting to hear his reasoning.

We really don't need a pitcher who is average and would blow $20-25M/yr. when we have this many great or at least very good prospects ready to do the same thing at $500K. Sometimes a team with a checkered past when it comes to prospect depth has a hard time convincing fans that they can replace players from within.

With the Miley signing, these are the Astros' new team WAR ratings:
Pitching - 20.0 WAR (3rd in MLB) SP - 15.8 WAR, 6th in MLB RP - 4.2 WAR, 4th in MLB
Hitting - 29.3 WAR, 6th in MLB
Overall - 49.3 WAR, 3rd in MLB
Overall this makes the Astros a well-balanced club. A good example of an unbalanced club is the Angels, who have 30 WAR on the hitting side but only 10 WAR on the pitching side.
If the Astros can add Castellanos, that probably moves the team into 3rd or 4th place in hitting WAR. Adding a quality reliever like Will Smith or Craig Stammen probably gives the team the second highest-rated bullpen behind NYY.
