here is an interesting thought, what if Reed quit eating jelly donuts and took up some kind of slim down exercise routine and lost another 40 lbs. that would make for an interesting log jam at first. Would it help or hurt if the Astros wrote into his contract that he gets a jelly donut each time he crosses home plate?

If Reed was a decent catcher, he would be in the majors ...but as a 1b or DH, I just don't see the Astros giving him a true 2nd chance...

He's definitely slipped behind White as the DH/1B heir apparent. I'm surprised I haven't heard much about Castro lately. I would have expected to with all the chatter about Realmuto. He's getting to the "fish or cut bait" stage of his career.

Thinking of regular position players, is 150 games the new normal for typical regulars now that in season rest is increasing? Perhaps 120 for catchers.
Wow! I just looked back and that number is too high.
2016 Three players played 150+ 2017 Two players played 150+ 2018 Only Bregman played 150+
Bregman is the pnly player over 150 in the last two years. Altuve did in 2016 and 2017.
140 may be closer to the "average" regular number of games played.
ps Just Astros, not league wide.

Good thing Ripken broke Gehrig’s streak when he did. That along with DiMaggio’s streak won’t eber be seriously challenged.

Reed's body type will not carry 260 well. He can not generate the bat speed with that much body to get out of the way. If he came in 220-230 I would give him a great chance to be on somebody's opening day roster.

Reed is a cautionary tale that no matter how impressive a prospect seems, it guarantees nothing in the majors.

Has he worked on his catching skills in the OS? It is difficult to correct stone hands.

It is difficult to correct stone hands. Singleton can testify to this. Smokin Jon’s issue is stoned head, not stone hands.

Why y'all so worried about Miley? I thought Strom was a magician. If Strom was a magician Liriano wouldn't be waiting for someone to call him with an offer

Wade Miley is similar to Keuchel in some respects. Do you think this signals the end of him in Houston? I read that with the Astros signing Miley, it does indicate Keuchel's tenure is over in Houston. I read Miley had success last year because he learned a cutter and that helped him out a lot. Hopefully he can be back of the rotation guy for us and pitch around 175 innings and if we are lucky win 10+ games.

On reading about Miley when he logged 80 plus innings last season, I thought he signed late, but he started the year being injured. That would be great if he could put in the number you mentioned.
