Not sure to what extent the idea of 'opening pitchers' might be fueling MadBum's discontent, but there was this tweet recently: "Bochy said Bumgarner sent him a text after Zaidi said Giants might use openers. "If you use an opener in my game I’m walking right out of the ballpark."
— Alex Pavlovic (@pavlovicnbcs) February 9, 2019"It doesn't appear he's open to that idea. By all indications he might have some mild reservations

There are a few free agent ex-Astros that might be doing a little sweating around this time. I hate to see a good guy like Keuchel get effed cause of his agent, but players need to learn to stop signing with Boras even if it's a little overdue[br Their is a new brand of GM now, Boras can't play his game with the golden hand to rake clubs. The COB was on the network yesterday complaining that all these "Stars" not signed are hurting the game, there is only one place to look.

I f these "STARS" dropped their price to $20M and length to 5 years, they wouldn't still be on the market. No negotiation eve starts with, "you have to give me what I ask-even if it's for the moon." I'm glad we're seeing some semblance of fiscal responsibility. Those clubs will soon be facing declining revenues from TV as cable becomes obsolete.

Right on, Manny and Bryce want to top Stanton's contract, anything less to them would be a failure.

With an eye toward the 2020 season and the possibility that we lose JV, Cole, McHugh and Miley next offseason, here are the SP pitching prospects that I will be watching closely during ST and the minor league season this year. I have included the age they will be during the 2020 season:
Forest Whitley (22) Corbin Martin (24) J.B. Bukauskus (23) Brandon Bielak (24) Ryan Hartman (26)

This just posted on MLBTR:
“SUNDAY: The Giants plan on making Harper a short-term, big-money offer, but they’re uninterested in giving him a long-term contract along the lines of the 10-year, $300MM proposal he rejected from the Nationals, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.”
I’m sure hoping no owner caves into Boras’ demands. Harper is his prize client. I remember reading articles a couple years ago which predicted that Machado and Harper would get contracts in excess of $400 million this offseason. The players have come to believe that they are entitled to a bigger contract than the largest contract given to a comparable player in years past and if they don’t get that contract, the owners are violating some rule or law. The owners have finally realized that the contract craziness has gotten totally out of hand. They didn’t fold to the crazy demands last offseason and so far have not this offseason. I hope the owners stay the course.
The owners are successful businessmen who will do just fine if professional baseball goes away tomorrow. The players make a minimum salary of over a half million dollars a year playing a kids game. Would they make that kind of money if they weren’t playing pro baseball? A few might, but it would be a very few. If the players strike, they will be the losers and will get little sympathy from the fans.

so would you do a 2 year 70 million dollar deal for Harper with a player opt out after 1.

I hope the players realize there's no basis for a work-stoppage in order to renegotiate the collective-bargaining agreement. The market for free agents has shifted under the players' feet. And the Astros had a lot to do with it. Luhnow may wind up altering the course of history on player salaries when all's said and done. The downside is the big-market clubs who've never struggled for landing high-dollar FAs are benefitting the most now cause they're getting them at cheaper prices

Walker was part of the Orioles' original Kiddie Corps along with Steve Barber, 22, Chuck Estrada, 22, Jack Fisher, 21, and Milt Pappas, 21. Together with veteran pitchers Hoyt Wilhelm, 37, and Hal "Skinny" Brown, 35, the Kiddie Corps posted a league-best 48 complete games (Arnie Portocarrero, 28, had one of those 48 complete games). The O's overall pitching staff tied the Yankees for lowest ERA at 3.52.”

Is that a joke or has MLB really bowed down to the PC police? No joke. Liberals are killing this country. SJW have taken over. This thread needs some music! The commentary before they start the song is what we're all feelin' right now. I turn on the tube and what do I see A whole lotta people cryin' "Don't blame me" They point their crooked little fingers at everybody else Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves Victim of this, victim of that Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat Get over it Get over it All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit Get over it, get over it You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash But you might feel better if they gave you some cash The more I think about it, Old Billy was right Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight You don't want to work; you want to live like a king But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing Get over it Get over it If you don't want to play, then you might as well split Get over it, get over it It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak You're makin' the most of your losin' streak Some call it sick, but I call it weak You drag it around like a ball and chain You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down Complain about the present and blame it on the past I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass Get over it Get over it All this bitchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit Get over it, get over it Get over it Get over it It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit Get over it, get over it Get over it
