I don't know about a hometown discount, but if Nelson Cruz can get a $14 million deal with an option for a second year at $12 million when he is 37 years old, I figure Davis should be able to get what he is asking for. Heck, he'd even be worth a 3-year $30 million deal, imo. He's about as consistent a power hitter as you can get over the last 3 years. I wish either you or Abreg would change your picture...they're too similar at a glance and keep confusing me as to who is posting! Look for the Christmas Tree...

He's nicer than me. That's a good way to tell the difference. Once you hit about age 40 and have 3 or 4 kids, it’s time to stop leaning on the “internet bad ass” trope, son. I just meant nicer in general from a friendly less-argumentative standpoint. I'm certainly not a bad ass.

You know Todd is the type to take a smartphone picture of his home runs before jogging.

You know Todd is the type to take a smartphone picture of his home runs before jogging. He takes a selfie and unbeknownst to him, it's not a homerun, it hits the wall, and he gets thrown out on trying to first base....Todd is the OG, the Original Gomez.

Gomez would get thrown out at first because he’d go straight to third from home.

I would see if I could do a Aaron Sanchez or Marcus Stroman for Yuli Gurriel and a Piece Yuli doesn't suck nearly as bad as some uou want to replace him. He will be the starting first baseman

Looking like Stroman wants out of Toronto. I’m guessing Luhnow is staying in contact with the Blue Jays GM. They have made deals in the past. Luhnow has plenty to offer.

Sounds good to me

Grichuk and Stroman for Reddick or Gurriel and two prospects Sounds good to me I’ve got to admit that’s a win depending on prospects. Finally, pitching is addressed.

I like his thinking. If I were him, I'd make sure the hometown discount included a universal no trade clause in his contract.
Hooray for a reasonable ball player!

The players union's case is undermined if players publicly acknowledge the market for salaries like this. Part of me wishes Davis wanted a raise though. He'd be a great mid-season rental

I sense the Blue Jays are pretty happy with Giles... he made 21 appearances with Toronto after the trade, 16 of which were scoreless. Giles allowed 1 run in 4 appearances and he had one 5-run, 2-HR meltdown vs Boston soon after the trade. His last 10 appearances of the year were scoreless.
So far, the Toronto version of Giles has avoided the antics that made Houston fans sour on him.
If Toronto is satisfied with its last trade with Houston, they may be inclined to do another.
At the same time, it is probably a little unsettling for Crane and Luhnow to see Stroman running his mouth like this. What would stop him from doing the same thing in Houston if something or other pissed him off?

Grichuk and Stroman for Reddick or Gurriel and two prospects Sounds good to me Stroman is their #1 pitcher, and despite him speaking out against his team, I don't see the Jay's trading low on him. If the don't plan on extending him, they would be wiser to see if rebounds in the first part of this upcoming season, and if bounces back, trade him then.

He has a good 2017, but it's looking like an aberration. Combine that with his public statements and I vote to pass, even with the name.

Stroman has a career FIP in the low 3.60's and I think with the Astros defense behind him, he could keep his season ERA under 3.80. Good enough for a #4 or #5 starter.
His worst career FIP is 3.91, so I don't really see a big danger of having him turn in a terrible season. My biggest concern would be his shoulder. The Astros would benefit greatly if he could turn in another 200-inning season. But injuries could limit him to around 100 IP and that would be a lot less valuable.

I see another former Astros catcher, Bruce Bochy (78-80), will retire after the season. We really have seen a lot of our former catchers end up in the game AFTER their playing careers are over.

But does anyone think that the Jays would actually trade him at such a low-value right now, coming off a bad season and with recent ill-advised remarks.... If the Astros get him at a low price, given his current value, I will be for it, but I don't think the Jays are foolish enough to do it.

I would also have to presume the Jays wait till later in the season to trade Stroman. Him stinking up his relationship with the team may or may not expedite his departure.

Didn't the Astros take a dump on Wagner when he got mouthy Yeah, they did, because he was mouthy about the organization not trying to be competitive....Wagner is one of my favorite Astros of all time, but closers generally are not as valuable as front end starters.
