It's just pretty interesting that a guy with pretty good numbers, in his prime and healthy, and reasonable to good defense can't get a multi-year deal. reasonable defense but no one thinks he can cut it at the hot corner now. I think the Brewers are making him a MI

Good for Mr. Trout. He is the best baseball player of his generation. OTOH, that bank busting contract increases the chances he may be one of the greatest players in MLB history never to make it to the WS. My thoughts exactly. Meanwhile, I sure wish we could install a flop sweat detector on Mr. Kuechel. Heeeeeey Dallez.... Only 9 days left until opening day.

The Pujols contract will be done in a few years and then he'll be the only significant player still on the books still at that time. I know they've been working on their farm system so maybe they're thinking they'll be able to build around him from the farm system for the last several years of the contract.

Gio Gonzalez signing a minor league deal with the Yanks; and if makes the roster, $3M, might lower Keuchel asking price.
He should sign a 1 year deal, with a 2nd year team option.
$15M one year, with year two being $20M team option...seems like a very fair price for him right now...I don't see a team going over that right now...do any of you?

Still have to pay him a $10M personal services balloon payment in 2022. Then at that time Ohtani approaches the big bucks? I guess 3 years qualifies as "a few", but I sure like our prospect of LT sucess versus this pathetic franchise. At some point Trout will also be so flush with cash, the desire for a ring will kick in. I am guessing in about 5 years.

Fisher and Straw optioned back to the minors. Looks like Joke Marisnick slobbed Hinch's knob again and will make the team. How ridiculous.
Taneilu and Mayfield also optioned.

My trusty calculator says Trout + Pujols = $64,000,000. (One year folks) He is only making $3M/yr more this year than he would have. Pujols will retire this year IMO. You heard it here first...

Things look better for us, but I don't think it's a bad idea for them to lock up Trout. He's a fan favorite and somebody they'll go to watch even if they don't do a lot as a team.

If Luhnow could have landed that deal, I would have supported it 100%.

But, if he had gone into ST and been horrible it might have helped Straw though. Unfortunately, he did really well so any chance of Straw making it bit the dust.

From MLBTR:
“Tigers righty Michael Fulmer has received a recommendation that he undergo Tommy John surgery, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports on Twitter. He’d stand to miss the entire 2019 season and in all likelihood a portion of the 2020 campaign as well.”
Sure glad Luhnow didn’t go all Voodoo this offseason and trade the farm for this guy.

Him and Perez were dodged bullets. If Seth Lugo and Realmuto get hurt it might be a sign that this is our year again.

Just like the Global Warming scam became the Climate Change scam, it will change forms and continue. Collusion at the top will become collusion in the middle and in the Arbitration years.
There is NEVER any consideration given that the clubs are simply responding to market data indicating it is not wise to pay for past performance with a long term contract with an aging player. The clubs are just not willing to insure players for sub par performances unless they are playing with the biggest stakes. I still think half the long term contracts from this off season will be regretted before they are half over.

Fulmer would still have two club-controlled salary years left by then, so it could happen

Why are all the games including the Astros canceled today? Not 100% sure, but the radar sure shows a heck of a lot of rain over the FL peninsula today.
