Why are all the games including the Astros canceled today? Because of you.

Astros just signed Pressly to a two year extension, so Astros have him through the 2021 season.
Great News!
Now re-sign Verlander and Cole

Details...
Breaking: Astros in agreement with reliever Ryan Pressly on a two-year, $17.5M extension.
In addition to locking up Pressly, the Astros have been in talks on an extension for 3B Alex Bregman, sources tell The Athletic. Bregman has two-plus years of service - the same level Mike Trout was at when he agreed to a six-year, $144.5M deal with the Angels in 2014.👀 Ken Rosenthal

Apparently it's a 5 year deal for Bregs.
Correction: It is a five-year deal. Third baseman Alex Bregman is in agreement on a five-year, $100 million extension, keeping him under team control through 2024.

Poor Springer. He’s been waiting a while. He had sort of a down year in 2018. If he signs now, he'll have to leave some money on the table. If he has a good 2019, he can bargain for more.

I’ve been checking in on the board regularly. Just not posting much. Broke up a garden spot for myself, another for my son and another for a friend. Got my onions, pinto beans, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, watermelons and cantaloupes planted. Staying busy.

Also very solid on Bregman. That locks him up till he's 30, by which time odds would say he should have peaked already. So if he wants to be a Yankee in his declining years, so be it.

Poor Springer. He’s been waiting a while. No sympathy here. He turned down the extension that was offered to him.

I lost my first set of plantings to the freeze that we had a couple of weeks ago. Lost all the peaches on three of my trees as well. I am going to wait another week or so to take some more stuff out of the green house to plant to ensure that I do not have to worry about the third time being the charm. That freeze sure sucked but at least I have my answer on how cold it really has to get to lose your early set fruit. 24 degrees two nights in a row kills 100% of the new fruit sets.

It will be interesting to see how the deal is structured. If there is a fairly even distribution, it hinders resigning Pitching. If they start low for two or three years and then balloon the salaries in the last two year which correspond to the FA years included in this deal, we might still have room to sign JV and/or Cole. Because JV is getting into his risky years, he may be more likely to remain. Cole just may be too expensive with lower cost options ready to make their mark in the Big Leagues.

Poor Springer. He’s been waiting a while. So this year will be real interesting for Bregman. He has always been a real grinder and has been focused on making himself a better player. Let's see how he reacts to having some coin in his pocket.

Still have to pay him a $10M personal services balloon payment in 2022. Then at that time Ohtani approaches the big bucks? I guess 3 years qualifies as "a few", but I sure like our prospect of LT sucess versus this pathetic franchise. At some point Trout will also be so flush with cash, the desire for a ring will kick in. I am guessing in about 5 years. They will pay him $1M/yr. for 10 yrs. the length of his service contract.

That is great news. I hope they can at least retain Cole. I think Cole, out of him and Verlander, will be the tougher to resign. Will Keuchel sign with anyone by OD? I agree with you on Cole and Verlander. It would be nice to have Verlander around to lead the staff and mentor the young pitchers who are coming along. James, Whitley, Martin, Bukauskus, Bielak could all be in Houston by next season. Keuchel? Who dat?

If the Astros can't re-sign Cole, I think Verlander will be tempted to go play for the Dodgers
