I think I remember that it was KevinBass who reliably informed us that 1) the Astros would never win under Crane and 2) he would never spend money. I think there are some still on this board who questioned his money habits as well. Okay then. Kevin Bass was the absolute worst.

I’m wondering where Smokin Jon is gonna get his weed money after he smokes up the final $.5 million the Astros will pay him this season. He might come and plant it in your garden. Better not. Wouldn’t be prudent.

Just read an article where Bregman is mouthing off about being "unhappy" with the Astros position on a contract extension for him. Note to Bregman: Keep your damn shut, do your job, and you will be paid. Altuve worked dirt cheap before signing his extension and he kept his mouth shut and played. Bregman needs to do the same. Like I said the press loves to report the disagreement, and leave out the important part of there being agreement. It's one of the more annoying aspects about them

There is no way I could ever have a civil discussion with this SOB. HIs non-sequitirish demeanor and tactics when losing an argument were beyond chicken shit. Ghump (aka Wintermutt) could best be described as the bespectacled kid on the train in Polar Express. A Know It All who everyone hates. In my near 30 years online. (internet and before then BBS bulletin boards), I can honestly say this is the only person I have ever despised in this format. PoP OTOH, was just bat shit crazy, and suffered from some serious delusion issues. I can handle that, and in fact got plenty of chuckles from it.

Eloy Jimenez , who has never played in an MLB game, just got a $42.5 million 6-year deal. I'm having a difficult time seeing the upside for the White Sox on this one. That's a ton of security they're offering. Without the contract the team is only obligated year-by-year. A career-ending injury and you just cut the player loose. Plus, the first three* years of service time are at minimum wage. I don't see them as saving all that much money through his arb years with this deal. Certainly not enough to put themselves on the hook for 42 million right now. What am I missing? * yeah, super-2 blah, blah, blahNo I'm with you. I think it's great to give deserving young players extensions, but I think they need to show you a couple years first.

Astros are under $19.5M under the luxury tax threshold.... I would hope they can move Marisnick, to add $3M more, to have more room for mid season trades A far cry when the whole pay role in 13 was around 20 mill.

"Bregman will be paid $11MM annually from 2020-22 before earning $28.5MM in both 2023 and 2024, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports (via Twitter). He also has a 10-team no-trade clause for the 2023-24 seasons."
I like the way that is structured. Gives us flexibility the next few years still and keeps us with money to spare for this year for a trade.

Imagine being his age and falling into that sort of money. It's a wonder they don't all become drug addicts.

Imagine being debt-free and buying needless luxuries out of pure boredom. A lot of these kids have the financial IQ of a rock. An athletic career often ends in their 20's or 30's. They become accustomed to that luxury splurges , and soon and often wake up broke wondering where their money is by age 40.

Pence made the Rangers. He actually had a really good ST even given the semi-uselessness of ST stats. He appears in really good shape and his new and improved swing and baserunning has been excellent. I'd like to see him have a couple more good years.
He's in striking distance of 2000 Hits and 250 HR. Only 120 players in the history of the game have achieved those marks, and even less when you throw in 100+ SBs.

Pence really hit the Astros organization at the ultimate wrong time. He was really good early on, and think about it...... How much better his stats would have been if he hadn;t been surrounded by deadwood in the lineup early in his career.
