If Whitley is ready in 2019, we will have a great rotation. I am not nearly as concerned about our pitching as I am the catching position and the offense. Go get Nelson Cruz NOW. Sign McCuthen to play left-field. Trade for Salvador Perez. Adding Eovaldi, Cruz, and Perez is exactly what we need. If we could add another piece, especially a starting pitcher, we are set. Whitley can only pitch about 120 innings in 2019. His age and his lack of 2018 innings will reduce his value for the 2019 rotation. Counting on more than one of our prospects to establish themselves in 2019 would be committing professional malpractice. We have to have an established #3. McHugh #4 and either James, Valdez, Whitley or whoever as the #5 and the spot starter.

The thing about what we need with pitching is that we need help right now but with an eye past next season.
If we don't get ready-to-go pitching help for next year, we're wasting arguably our best chance at another championship. You can't waste 2019 hoping the young pitchers develop.

You and I think alike on this. I think we can get Perez without losing Tucker. Stassi ..........I suppose........would be an adequate backup for Perez. I'm fine with them bypassing Stassi for Stubbs as a backup if they got Perez. Stassi would have some trade value anyways. If we get Perez, he could mentor Stubbs. I can see Stassi being used in a trade.

If the Mets have to have starting players for Syndergaard, I don't know who they want that we would deal.

I was one of the ones who was impatient with Bregman and he proved me wrong. I don't want to jump the gun and deal Tucker. We would end up regretting it. I would not mind moving Reddick in the right deal.

I said this in a previous post Would you rather have Verlander Cole Morton mcHugh James Or Verlander Cole Snydergaard James McHugh Then you can let Verlander walk resign Cole and gain McCullers after he recovers It's really a in and out question. If you trade for Madbum it falls in the same line. Can you resign Verlander Cole and MadBum?

What if that post season was a preview of things to come and we passed at getting him on a reasonable contract? I have to think we have an advantage because he is from Alvin and I think the Ryans could influence him to sign with us. I think we can also sign Goldschmidt when he becomes a free agent because of local ties.

Eovaldi is a losing pitcher with below average career numbers and has only had one full healthy season. I don't understand why people are so interested in him. He had a good season in limited innings in 2018 but he's been, at best, a #4 pitcher for his career. I'd rather have Happ. He’d be pretty good as a reliever if he fails as a starter. I wasn’t exactly impressed with Osuna.

Trade for proven success over signing someone who hasn't shown they can be something good. We don't have to settle for poor-mediocre FA pitching.

I'd rather not sign him then. Just because he throws hard doesn't mean he's worth that amount.

I'd rather not sign him then. Just because he throws hard doesn't mean he's worth that amount. I would gamble and if he doesn't do anything those two first years he becomes the bull pen guy. And he will opt out in the 4th year. But if he comes in and lights out for two years which is basically what your counting on. You won this deal hands down and all the Guaranteed money would be gone off the books.

what does Tucker is fringe mean? Showed the world in the minors every level Showed zero I the majors It has been proven that if you hit the ball harder you will have more success. I will agree that he has not proven that he can hit major league pitching on a regular basis but given the small sample size no one but Bregman hit it harder on the Astros last year than Tucker, so he has not proven that he can not hit it either. Given his status as a top ten prospect calling him fringe is inappropriate.

Based on the fact that he only made around $1.3 million in 2018 and has not shown he can stay healthy and consistent, I would not offer him more than 3 years at $6-7 million per year. The 5 year,.$55 million that nathan suggested is absurd.
